I have had this cd for nearly 5 months now and cant stop playing it It is by far the best cd i have bought this year,A pure joy.I wunder how long it will be before i wear it out,Just go and buy it.

This is the real thing. One of the great live recordings in any genre, it really is "live" with all the imperfections and crowd intrusions of the gig as it happened. BB King was always at the soul end of the blues styles, and this concert was recorded at the time that soul music was really taking off in BBs heartland. That fact is reflected in the performance - brash, noisy and above all entertaining.

Buddy Guy celebrates his new recording contract with Silvertone by setting out his stall from the very first track - the title which features some exceptionally fiery guitar playing and there's some lovely fluid guitar playing all over this album. As well as this facet Buddy Guy shows his softer - more "bluesier" side on "Five Long Years" and "Black Night" - the two longest tracks on the album. The album features a stellar cast of guitar greats - Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Mark Knopfler but Buddy Guy's guitar burns the brightest of them all. There's an odd cover here of "Mustang Sally" which is taken a tad slower than normal but works well. Some rave about Ella Fitzgerald, her tonal purity and mirth, but say she could lack emotional depth (not sure I agree). Some rave about Billie Holliday, but have to cede that she had a narrow range, although she was a groundbreaking stylist. Sarah Vaughan was the third great female voice of jazz, and believe you me, she lacked nothing! This album is a wonderful budget introduction to one of the most remarkable voices of all time. Her range and her sheer musical intelligence are unsurpassable.

I have been a fan of Will Holland for some time in all his guises. I would say that some of his recent releases have not grabbed my attention as some of the older stuff did. I was thinking he may have spread himself too thin. However this album has enjoyed heavy rotation since I bought it. A summer album for the summer that never was! A great mix of styles, latin, funk, dub. There are some real dub standards mixed in here. I would not say it's that much reggae inspired, much more of a dub style in the 70's sense. Give it a fair try it may just help your digestive tract...

This is a very useful compilation of tracks that date from what was for many of us a golden era. Many of the tracks gave me that 'Ah!' of nostalgic recognition that reminded me of setting out for the evening with a 'cool' short haircut and a fresh pack of cigarettes in my pocket! However, listening to the whole album I found that the mix of jazz styles became, well, sort of indigestible. I have never found that with the 'pop' albums in this series so perhaps its just a jazz thing. I would certainly suggest that you check whether there are enough tracks that you really want before you buy because I am finding that the unwanted tracks do not 'grow on me'.

Late night background music of only moderate quality. Some of the tracks seem to consist entirely of into.

I bet this was a fantastic live show - shame it sounds so flat on the CD! Unlike the other reviewer I came to this recording as a fan of Willie Nelson. I think Willie sounds pretty good on the whole - I just wish there was a bit more of him! His regular harmonica buddy, Mickey Raphael, is the real star of the show for me - his soloes shine above everyone else! The first two tracks, "Bright Lights, Big City", and Willie's own "Night Life", are the highlights for me. The lowest points being the two tracks associated with Hank Williams ("My Bucket's Got a Hole in It" and "Nobody's Business"), which, for me, don't seem to work in this jazz setting. All in all, it's not a terrible album but certainly not one that will much ... Read More:
