Below is the review I recently posted on Amazon.com for the Dave Brubeck Take Five SACD. I really felt I should post the reveiw on Amazon.co.uk also, as there appear to be reviews which relate only to the CD release - same story with US Amazon. Surely there must be others out there that could stand up for this superb SACD album??!! Although I'm not what I consider to be a great fan of jazz, I have enjoyed Dave Brubeck's music for quite some time. For the last two and a half years or so, I have bought almost only high resolution music (DVD-A or SACD), and was determined to buy this disc soon. A good Greatest hits very reasonably priced with lots of the Sisters Decca Hits although could have done with a few rarities thrown in for serious collectors of the Andrews sisters recordings. Quality of the transfers however is very good, if you dont have their greatest hits this is a good start.

Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker and Taj Mahal together on the same record: Wow… well not quite. The problem is that this eclectic combination was put together specifically to play a Jack Nitzchse composed movie score. As soundtrack’s go it’s good – lot’s of drifting, atmospheric playing that’s well suited to building cinematic moods – but, out of context, a great deal of it sounds like… well like a soundtrack without the movie. On track after track John Lee Hooker puts in a tour-de-force of deep groaning that beats virtually any other bluesman out of sight, Miles Davis inserts trumpet stabs to die for and Taj Mahal (supported by Tim Drummond, Earl Palmer & Roy Rogers) provides superbly earthy blues backings. ... pre order this CD now, you will not regret it, forget about the track sampling, it does not do the CD justice, once you hear it on your own home theatre setup with good equipment, you will be blown away, its that good! listening through good quality headphones the binaural sound is even more breathtaking, this really is hearing TATUM in person on a top instrument, in this case the YAMAHA, one can only hope and pray that further TATUM tracks will form another CD release in the near future, I can hardly wait!!

Long overdue release in every sense! Almost legendary unreleased album by sax/flute player from Traffic was in limited circulation among collectors, although never in this quality. Truly great instrumentals and jams reflected Chris Wood's role in the arrangements of Traffic songs. I only wonder how come the collector's version in circulation consisted of four more songs (Song For Pete, Tone Blind - Rhythm Deaf, Jam In Butter and Tragic Magic) plus two more versions of Letter One. Why these tracks were ommited? Nevertheless, don't miss the great legacy of the great musician.

This isn't the first example of Michael Nyman's cinema work I've bought - I fell in love with the score for The Piano, and I bought the soundtrack for Gattaca without every sitting through the whole film. This double CD is a brilliant opportunity to experience a whole raft of soundtracks he's been involved with over the 20-odd years this covers. Some of the individual film soundtracks sadly do not appear to be available, but even a single track as featured here for some films is better than nothing. The first CD heavily features work from his many collaborations with Peter Greenaway, whilst the second features tracks accompanying a wider range of directors' work, and it's really fascinating to see the evolution of his style over the years.
