Anyone who has heard and enjoyed the work of Harold Budd, Steve Reich, Michael Nyman or John Cage should find Ferndorf a fascinating listen . Cage is probably the most apt comparison as Dusseldorf-based pianist and composer Volker Bertelmann, who records as Hauschka has a similar avant garde approach to playing the piano as Cage , or rather did- He often modifies the piano in the middle of live concerts in order to provoke different sounds and textures from it and his last album utilised this "prepared piano" technique .
However for Fendorf ( named after a German village) he has gone back to piano basics but expanded the instrumentation with violin (by Sabine Baron), cello (by Insa Schirmer and Donja Djember), and trombone (by Bernhard ... Read More:

seriously fantastic.

this is an obscure set of rare groove tracks.

seriously spaced out funk, my bro found it, that's where i heard it from and just bought this cd for the uncompressed quality.

i believe all the others in the set have ethiopian vocals all over them.

if you like rare groove/funk trust me, buy this and you'll be more than happy ;)

When you're tired of just "the best of" and don't want to go to the trouble to collect the complete Glenn Miller, this is about the best collection on the market. I'm still surprised to find items like the childish "Booglie-Wooglie Piggy" or "the Kiss Polka" included in the set ("Sweeter than the Sweetest" and "At the President's Birthday Ball" come to mind as musically better alternatives), but all in all there's a good balance between the swinging Mr. Miller and the more commercial things he waxed.
I still find it incomprehensible that Miller employed such mediocre singers (Marion Hutton and Ray Eberle), who are only palatable when they are singing together with The Modernaires, and therefore I find it a pity that the 1937-1938 Decca and Brunswick ... Read More:

Words cannot really do justice to this album. If it catches you just right it is all about the experience and not some intellectual definition. It's a classic for a reason and a great introduction to Miles Davis and jazz in general. Lower the lights, open a bottle of red wine and put this on, it's what jazz is all about!

If you like Beverley's music but don't actually own any of it, like me, then buy this cd. It's got almost all of her best hits on it and it's brilliant. I'm really pleased with this cd. I'd recommend it.

Curious as to what the fuss was all about I ordered this cd. And I must confess that all three colleague-reviewers are correct in their assesment of this cd (with which I do not mean to say that I necessarily agree with their judgement). True, there is a lot more 78's surface noise than on most Vocalion or Past Perfect reissues. No, to me that isn't much of a problem, because quite honestly the "enhancement" often changes the aural picture of the original recording, not always for the better.
It is however also true that a little more care in the preparation would have prevented the irritating late start of two tracks ("Easy Come, Easy Go", where the first bar of the introductory guitar is all but missed and "Love you funny thing"); furthermore, the sound quality of "On the ... . . . at least one Georgie Fame album, that is. Georgie is responsible for giving the world what is arguably the finest horn riff of all on Get Away - just five notes, but, oh, what notes. This excellent value CD is a must - it's got most of his hits, and the other tracks are all standards which Fame interprets in his own accomplished way with character and empathy. And it's also a great demonstration of why the pop music of the sixties was so brilliant - an era when artists of Georgie's calibre were taking their inspiration from jazz and blues and, in turn, inspiring so many others. I love it. The price of this Fame album is ludicrously cheap and there's really very little excuse for not including it in your collection.
