Music : Angelus
I can think of no other musician who occupies such a vast range of styles and genres. It seems that there are more kinds of music going on in Brazil than in the whole of the rest of the world put together, and Milton has made it his life's work to bring them all together. From strange tribal chitterings of the Amazon jungle, joyous Creole accordians, the flutes and multitudinous guitar analogues of the Andes, the bottomless grief of the slave plantations, the vast serenity of Villa Lobos, the delicate grace of the choro, then of course the forms we outsiders are more familiar with, Samba, Bossa Nova, and again and again songs that you would swear have come from the pen of Lennon and McCartney. All of life is in Milton's music. And on the ... Read More:

This has to be one of the most aptly named album ever. Put on this CD, and it'll have you kicking off your shoes and reaching for a glass of single malt. I'm not a big jazz fan, but the music is very beautiful, and it really does come into its own at nightime - hence the title, I presume. Think relaxing evening latin jazz, thoughtful bass lines, soulful sax and expressive, unhurried piano and acoustic guitar accompaniment. Relax!

A corker! I love the way the rhythmic line manages to sound like R&B and salsa at the same time, without relying on the basic force of a reggaeton-type beat. As a British salsera who can't speak Spanish, I've been hoping someone will come up with a way to play salsa in English, without it ending up like the usual cheesy salsa-romantica-pop covers - well, these R&B vocals work! Of course this album is a lot more than salsa, but the clave feel is there and if you are a dancer, it has the same effect on your feet and hips as any other top quality salsa track would. And Mary Pearce is as fabulous as ever- can't wait for 'Show Me Now' to be released on an album...

Music : The Charlie Brown Suite & Other Favourites
Although they hold some nostalgia value for me, you by no means have to be a fan of the Charlie Brown television specials to enjoy this CD. The music is simple - jazzy piano arrangements with a small backing band - but is, for the most part, delightfully refreshing. I find it makes great upbeat working music, although some of the tracks descend into elevator muzak territory.

This album sounds a bit different from the All Stars' debut. It's not its style, though: everything is still there, from the subtly understated percussion to the stabbing, polished horn section. This is a conceptually different album - and some of the conceptual difference is carried over into its sound. There are a couple of songs that feel far detached from the 50s tradition the All Stars are thought to emulate, especially so when the lyrics are considered (the title track being the album's finest example).

Also, the varety of styles on the recording is a little out of sync - you'll hear a bolero, a splendid piece of Afro-Cuban jazz, and even a son in the finest tradition of Compay Segundo. And this is exactly the point at which ... Read More:
