Being the only person who has (currently) left a review for this record I feel a bit bad about leaving such a short post. In honesty I don't have the CD in front of me and I can't remmber which are my favourite tracks. Amazon has just prompted me to leave a review, and I thought if I dont say something now, I will not get around to it! O Tempo Do Samba takes Samba from its original African routes and brings it smack up to date. As a result there is a wonderfully authentic African quality to a lot of the arangements and vocals which you don't often hear. The first part of the record starts of very "traditionally" but as it progresses more electronic elements are introduced. Although I was expecting a more Brazilian style record. When I put it ... This is a wonderful recording which will satisfy jazz fans of all persuasions. Furthermore, this is the perfect introduction to Dolphy as a jazz virtuoso without being thrown in the 'deep end'. Dolphy is in his element with these tuneful Ellington classics and plays beautifully on flute, sax and clarinet. The 'lightness' of the sound sometimes hides the endeavour and accomplishment of Dolphy's soloing. The recording was obviously well planed because each song merges into each other and on one or two occasions it can seem almost too 'neat', but Dolphy saves the album from this because he is always unpredictable.
