Other reviewers have said it all - I just want to clarify a couple of things
1) A couple of tracks here are not the same performances as on the companion video. One of them, Roads, was recorded at a festival (and certainly sounds like it!). The other - well, read on...
2) None of the tracks on this album deserve to be damned with the faint praise of "faithful reproduction of the originals". For one thing, they're all loud and vivid-sounding, with a fine balance of ambience and clarity (and this makes a particular difference to the second-album material - Cowboys is a speaker-blaster!). Elsewhere, Mysterons and Strangers have extended codas; Half Day Closing (with all its vocal processing intact) ends with a strange `Liberty Bell' ... Read More:

I have been a big fan of Sarah McLachlan's for years after discovering her music in the 90's when I lived in America, and I have all her albums. Mirrorball is a wonderful live album, and most live albums are often mediocre in comparison to studio recordings so for one to sound this good is a rarity. This album contains some of her most well-known songs so would be a great introduction to her music for anyone who doesn't know of her. She is one of the best female musicians in recent years and her voice is just remarkable. She stands head and shoulders above a lot of other young female vocalists who I think often tend to sound very similar to each other, even if they do have good voices. Her songs are often incredibly poignant and moving, such as ... Read More:

Rick Wakeman's interest in music began at an early age and it was originally thought that a career as a classical pianist lay in store for Rick and a spell at the Royal College of Music would seem to support this theory. Unfortunately Rick preferred playing in bands and appearing on the lucrative session circuit than studying as a classical pianist and decided to leave the Royal College Of Music or was perhaps gently pushed in that direction depending on who's story you believe.
Whatever the facts one thing is certain Rick Wakeman was in heavy demand playing sessions for some of the biggest names in pop music at this time (Late sixties/early seventies) and as such played on many hit singles including records by Brotherhood Of Man, Cat Stevens, T.Rex ... Read More:

Someone gave me this album a few years ago. I loved it at the time, and I still think it's great. Perhaps it's sentimental, or nostalgic, or maybe this is just onee of those albums that allow you to maintain enjoyment of the music. Almost everytime someone new hears this on our stereo, they always ask 'who is this?' and most have gone out and bought it! Well worth it. Yeh.

OVERALL GRADE: 10/10
Despite being a 7-track EP and amazon charging you £4.98 for it, this is an extremely good live album. Mariah proves that she can sing live and proves all the critics wrong and blew critics and audiences away with her stunning vocal range!

I've never been a Rod Stewart fan, having hated his mid-period 'If you think I'm sexy' stuff and then just gave up on him until I heard this. A superb unplugged session from the early 1990's.

Starting with a fiery version of 'Hot Legs', you know immediately this is Rod Stewart going back to his early 70's rock 'n' roll best. Track three is 'Handbags and Gladrags', now so familiar as the theme to 'The Office' that it came as quite a shock to here somebody sing it. I haven't heard the original version but this must push it close.

Its not a perfect album though. Rod should have left Tom Waits 'Tom Traubert's blues (walting matilda)' well alone. Once you've heard Tom Waits original version nothing else is worth listening to. If you don't ... Read More:

This is a fine recording of a great band. However I cannot recommend it and hence it only gets 2 stars.

The reason for this is that you might have thought that with an album cover which says EAGLES LIVE this would actually be a live a album. But no its not, in fact if you read the credits you'll find that there are overdubs added. So it should be called EAGLES LIVE (EXCEPT FOR THE OVERDUBS WHICH WE ADDED AFTER THE CONCERTS). Now if they called it that I probably would have given it 4 stars.

Shame, because the recordings are good, but if I wanted a studio quality recording, I'd have bought the original studio albums. Live is live, it can't be almost live unless its advertised as such!

Poor Hole. If only Courtney wasn't Courtney they'd have been taken much more seriously all along. Maybe, the day will one day come when this classic, brilliant album gets the credit it deserves.

First off, the songs are well-crafted and seriously hooky, without resorting to the poppiness of Celebrity Skin. They're proper rock/grunge anthems with roaring vocals and massive melody lines. Lyrically... well, not many bands can match Hole. It's rare (rare indeed) to find full-bodied rock songs that so explicitly and uncompromisingly tell the tale from the female point of view.

Oh, and Courtney's voice? From blackboard scraping, terrifying bawl, to honey dripping velvet... that woman's got it all.

So, don't subscribe to the systemic ... Read More:

Music : Dusty Springfield - Live At The BBC [2007]
Simon Bell's review here (the first review) rules. I've just played this DVD through and thoroughly enjoyed it. Dusty effortlessly goes from Tamla, soul, cabaret classics to folk and Broadway show standards to power ballads all in single live takes. Often she keeps her soul preference to the last song which goes over the end credits. She plays acoustic guitar and sings folk songs like 'My Lagan Love' (Lagan Love links her to Kate Bush as the Springfields' 'Silver Threads and Golden Needles' links her to Linda Ronstadt - she referenced both of these artists in her 1979 concerts). Things I noticed were in 'I'll Try Anything' she doesn't sing the line 'I'll cheat and I'll lie' and she does a storming version of The Temptations' 'Get Ready'.

She performs mostly in ... Read More:
