Music : I Could Live in Hope
12 years since this album was first created a couple of years since I first heard it, I come on to Amazon and look up Low and get 'the great destroyer' 'the great destroyer' etc.........I must say I enjoyed their last endeavour but their first release in 1994 'i could live in hope' is superior in many ways.

Very low key, honesty, and in no way seeks to be listened to...it needs to be listened to. This is an example of something that is great about bands first albums they are raw and true...and this is no exception.

This is an album that you can come back too and realize again and again that it is their best.

Highly recommended.

Along with the Rolling Stones, no-one has taken the core-roots of rock laid down by Led Zeppelin, Yardbirds etc, better than Aerosmith. Recorded at a time in their lives when normal people think about slowing down, this is a stunningly fresh and energetic album that rocks possibly harder than they ever have done. Despite it's very difficult writing and recording (the band swore they'd never make an album like this again) this, somehow, miraculously, hangs together very well indeed.

This album spawned two hit singles which now sit comfortably alongside the rest of their back catalogue in their live shows ("Hole In My Soul" and "Falling In Love"). Even better are the rest of the tracks, especially "Nine Lives", "Taste Of India", ... Read More:

This 1980 live album from Fleetwood Mac comprises some performances recorded five years before and others from the 1979 'Tusk' tour. It is, perhaps, a little eclectic, and will strike more of a chord with the more dedicated fans of the band. Whilst the track listing includes several renowned Mac songs - for instance a powerful rendition of Stevie Nicks' Rhiannon, and energetic versions of Monday Morning and Say You Love Me - there are some 'new' compositions which range from decent to forgettable. Also, at times it would seem that the choice of recordings was rather odd - on Landslide, Nicks is barely audible, and Christine McVie suffers a similar fate on what starts out as a promising rendition of Over My Head.

Nevertheless, as opposed ... Read More:

Well..Viva Las Vegas!
With such 'attractive' and 'original' title one might think we 're back in 1964, for a joy ride through Vegas with Ann Margaret & Elvis! Daddy would love that too, but this is another messed up Wooly Booger release from GREAT 1969 concert season(on disc 2) backed up with another unnecessary compilation from 1970(on disc 1). Music is great, but we had it before so many times. What doesn't belong here is studio version of Viva Las Vegas opening on disc 1, so 'dont you be nobodys fool' to think this is some rare live version!
Another sad moment is that booklet contains Elvis picture from 1970 season and Colin Escott liner notes for 1969 season, and Vice Versa for second disc. (Vice Versa is not some Italian critic working ... Read More:

This is the one.

I've known Dylan since i was in my cot, his presence throughout my life was pretty much as ubiquitous as all the other stuff you don't notice properly (usually till it's too late). And then at some point a long ways back someone gave me a tape of a Dylan gig like this one (very like - with Joan Baez in and everything) and i never really looked back.

Thing is i killed the tape quite quickly and never knew what it was.

If it didn't come from the same recordings as this they were somewhere close enough that it doesn't matter.

There's some of the best music i've ever heard (i've heard a bit) on this and i fear it may go the same way as that tape did.

I have had this DVD (the 'Deluxe' version, of which more later) since it's first week of release. I have to say it's musical content and the filming of it has grown on me as time goes by. At first I was not too impressed I have to say. But somehow it seems to win over with a hidden depth of content and character that just isn't immediate like some of the other U2 concert DVDs. Maybe it's because it seems a little slower paced, or maybe it's just because the band are a little slower paced than before. They are (like us all) getting older. But I don't think that's the only reason. It is an American 'in the round' show, and that changes the style and atmosphere of the concert compared to the European shows where the crowd are usually facing the front of stage only. ... Having been to Prince gigs 3 times I can safely say he is the greatest performer around full stop!
This 3 cd set is a fairly good example of his virtuosity and of how tight his band is!
As with most of his output nowadays...there are some tracks which fail to impress and go on a little bit too long.I was never a fan of his rap stuff and the thing he does with George Clinton is awful!
But once you play Peach and Dorothy Parker...well!I couldnt stop playing it!So infectious!!
Most of the first cd is dedicated to Rainbow Children which was a fine album in itself(apart from the daft low voice thing!)and I think the jazzy/blues direction is the way to go for him.Love to see him work with Wendy & Lisa again because they have the same style and ... Read More:

Apparently, this album has split the jury; those who love it and those who feel it doesn't do justice to the original material. I fall into the former. Some of tracks differ from the originals ever so slightly (take No Excuses or any of the slower songs) where some stand quite separate from the originals. I do not feel the acoustic thing was an mtv gimmick. This album feels honest. The harmonising between Layne and Jerry on this record is the best you'll find. The song arrangement was brilliant. Material from every AiC LP/EP is included and done performed brilliantly. The album flows track to track summating to something truly amazing. Some one once said that this is not how Alice should be remembered. I say, coming together after 3 years and giving their fans this awesome ... Read More:

I remember seeing Crosby Stills Nash and Young live at Wembly stadium, way back in the early 1970s, and being knocked out by Neil's guitar playing and with his ability to strike up a rapport with the other band members. This superb live album catapults me back to those heady days. Long drawn out guitar solos can be as dull as ditch water in the hands of lesser men, but here, Neil Young and Crazy Horse explore and interact musically in a way that is simply inspirational. The timing, dynamics and phrasing of the pre-grunge guitar work are enough to make other guitarists weep with envy.

But this is not just a guitar driven album: in this record Neil Young testifies to the fact that he is a songwriter of immense stature, capable of delivering material of a quality that cements ... Read More:

If, like me, you prefer albums to yield surprises and discoveries, then this career retrospective of the singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb is one for you. Webb is best known for the classic songs he penned for others (Wichita Lineman, McArthur Park, Up Up And Away, By The Time I Get To Phoenix to name but a few) - but here his work as a solo performer and singer-songwriter in the 1970s is celebrated. Although he never really broke through in the same way as James Taylor and Elton John, his work is the equal of their output - if not better. And the real joy in this collection - for me - was hearing a lot of this material for the first time.
His voice is uncertain, but distinctive. His songs often heartbreaking, but with humour and dignity. The first CD compiles a range of great sincere ... Read More:
