Really a Great oldie !!!

Of course ...nothing compares to the outstanding "Black and white night"...but its good value for the money with some songs from other artists normaly not performed by R.O. ( Bridge over troubled water, sweet caroline ..and so on)

It`s in B/W...but taped by australien tv...and picture and sound are therefore really good.

A little piece of history that shows why his was called "The big O" in his younger days...and a must buy for anyone who loves great music....and miss him !!

"Alanis Unplugged" is one of the best of these stripped down live albums that have become more common in the last couple of decades. I would probably have to go back to the one by 10,000 Maniacs for the last time I thought an artist came off better live and unplugged than they did in the studio. In large measure that has to do with Morissette reigning in her vocal affectations while singing most of these songs, which benefit from being stripped down so that the personal lyrics are emphasized more. With Morissette it is always about cryptic lyrics and moody melodies, but rally being able to hear the words and the way she vocalizes these songs in a more intimate situation makes them more approachable (e.g., "That I Would Be Good"). These songs ... Read More:

This comes very close to being a great concert DVD; the audio-visual quality is excellent, it is atmospheric and the musicianship and singing is impeccable. The only thing which lets it down is the sound balance - the drums and percussion are a bit too loud and dominent, whilst Carlos's guitar isn't loud and dominant enough, and fails to be the potent force that it is on his studio recordings. I'm only talking a small amount and I really enjoy the DVD, but everytime I watch it, a little voice inside my head says 'The guitar should be louder.' Tracks include Black Magic Woman, Samba Pati, Soul Sacrifice and many more.

I bought this album when it came out, having been a huge KISS fan for years, and tried and tried AND tried to like it. Well tonight I just tried again and even after almost two years break from it cannot find any redeeming features here to commend to anyone considering buying this album.
I have one word to sum up the entire enterprise; "clunking". Like a broken down engine Paul clatters, crashes (and even wheezes) his way around some truly awful lyrics, whilst trying to squeeze his triangle words into square holes over an uninspired and lack lustre musical backdrop. We have to wait until the last song (not a long wait as the album is so short) for a melodic verse and even that seems to have been lifted from an old Jerry Riggs song.

Although I've only given this 3 Stars it is an excellent product but the fact remains that the recording quality of some of it is such that it sounds as if it was recorded off the radio (and the medium wave at that) rather than for it. One for all Sandy Denny afficionados but not those unfamiliar with her work.

What a surprise to be the first to review this ! When I spotted it at Amazon I was seduced by the bonus tracks. This really would have made it a best of-live, hadn't it been for the fact that there's nothing from my favourite album The Raven. The voice of Cornwell is on here and at its very best. There is as always the excellent rhytm section (Burnel-Black)and the Doors-alike organ of Dave Greenfield. Listen to this and you will realize that the Stranglers are really New Wave and not Punk. Highlight : Toiler on the Sea.

The fact that there are two versions of this CD, one with a bikini-clad cover girl and the original sans bikini, makes you wonder about the priorities of the Western world, doesn't it?

Anyway, this is a really good live album. I've seen some people complain about the sound, but I can't hear it...it seems fine to me.
If you don't own any live Stones, you won't mind the fact that songs like "Start Me Up", "Street Fighting Man", "Honky Tonk Women" and "Satisfaction" have been available live for a long time and on several different albums. And if you do, well, then you're probably considering to buy this album because of disc two, which features a dozen rarely heard songs which have never appeared live before.

Now, I don't know why these ... Read More:

I discovered Shivaree through the Kill Bill soundtrack, which had Goodnight Moon on it. Having loved that track so much in every single way and playing it over and over I had to have more. So I got the album and eagerly waited by the front door for it to come so I could get it to my CD player ASAP (seriously)!

I was disappointed.. It's not that the album isn't good, it's just that Goodnight Moon is one of the best songs that I've ever heard, and being like I am, I expected the whole album to be like this. However, as I gradually played the rest of the album more and more, I've started to enjoy at least half of the tracks almost as much as Goodnight Moon. As for the others, I personally feel they lack some venom, but maybe in time I will like them as ... Read More:

Fortunately, I was at this gig at the Barowlands. I saw Big Country on numerous occassions including their support of Queen at Knebworth in August 1986, but in my opinion this was Big Country's finest hour eclipsing even their performance at the Glasgow Apollo in October 1984.
Everything was just right - the band played magnificently and the Barowlands' crowd responded accordingly, and then some. My only regret is that I missed the start of the accoustic set as I was not aware Big Country were actually supporting themselves by opening with an accoustic set. In terms of the music this is a must buy if you like Big Country or if you appreciate great songs from a band that really could cut it live -2,3,4 where did the feeling go!!!!!! - well it hasn't gone and long ...
