181.Songs in a Minor: & Ltd. Edition Remixed/Unplugged Disc by: Alicia Keys
October 28, 2002
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

>>More Details
Music : Songs in a Minor: & Ltd. Edition Remixed/Unplugged Disc
This album with the second disc is worth buying even if you already have the album after the first release.

Disc One: This contains all the tracks that we know and love, each track is different in its own way, and really brings out the best in RnB music.

Disc Two: With the first half including remixes and extra tracks not from the first disc (eg. Gansta Lovin w/Eve) and the unplugged, this should be its own album.

The remixes include almost everything, so whatever you like, its bound to be on there...

The live tracks are from one show, so they all link together without any nasty edits. You can hear how wild the crowd go for Alicia Keys, and how right they are to do so!!!!!

This is a first-rate 20-track compilation for anyone wanting to find out what Elvis Presley sounded like live in the last decade of his career. The selection is taken from various live albums and the songs are presented here as belonging to one single concert. The first half of the programme is covered by 1969-70 recordings with outstanding versions of "Johnny B. Goode", "Suspicious Minds" (the best-ever live cut from the 1969 "Elvis in Person" album), "Polk Salad Annie", "The Wonder of You", "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water". The second half features the hit single "Burning Love" taken from "Aloha" and the great 1974 live in Memphis rendition of "How Great Thou Art". The disc concludes with the unavoidable "Unchained ... Apologies for the obvious pun but this album really is worth it.

Lloyd Cole and The Commotions were, for only a few years unfortunately, the thinking man's (and woman's) Smiths. Dismissed as overly pretentious by many, Lloyd Cole was willing to show that he was an educated man with his clever lyrics, name checking many books and films that he had read or seen. I am a huge Smiths fan, but Lloyd and his band have a special place in my heart.

I am a completist so had to buy this album (along with LC and The Commmotions Vol. 1 and LC at the BBC) as I had listened all those years ago to the radio when these tracks were first broadcast, but a dodgy C90 casette (for those who don't know what one of these is - count yourselves lucky!) ... Just like `Tokyo Tapes' is a fitting live epitaph to the band's Uli Jon Roth period, so `World Wide Live' is an appropriate record to mark the end of the era where the Scorpions were a genuine, world-beating heavy rock act. Even though some of their later albums are worthy efforts and the band were to enjoy even greater success some years later when they released that song with the whistling, the next record, `Savage Amusement', showed the first cracks in their armour. This was the last Scorpions record I truly loved, without reservation, and I'm sure it's the same for many long-standing fans of the band.
Even though it lacks a little charm, tending to sound overly-professional and hence a touch sterile, `World Wide Live' is a great live album. This is due ... Read More:

You basically get a full Tori concert from the "Original Sinsuality" tour; the setlist draws on a wide number of tracks from her whole career, favouring more recent albums.
Fans of "Welcome to Sunny Florida" might be disappointed to hear there is no rhythm section: the whole concert is just Tori, mainly sticking to her Bosendorfer.
Stand out moments include a fansite-requested cover of Flock of Seagulls' "I Ran" and a rare airing of "Y Kant Tori Read" track "Cool on your Island", both of which prompt Tori into some amusing reminiscences about being a fledgling artist in the eighties.
The whole thing closes in spectacular fashion with two great tracks from "Beekeeper", sandwiching the haunting "Carbon", before a whimsical rendition of old favourite "Leather" ... Read More:

I first got to know The Corrs when I saw them in Manchester in 1996 as Celine Dion's support band and since then, I have took notice of what they've released but I have only recently got into them, as I have broadened my horizons as far as music is concerned.

Out of all their albums I have, which are this, Borrowed Heaven and their Greatest Hits, I think this is the best one. All of the songs are performed very well indeed and provide a refreshing combination of styles, from laid-back (Summer Wine) to something a bit more lively (Breathless). My favourite songs on the album are When The Stars Go Blue, Summer Wine, Ruby Tuesday and Breathless, although I don't dislike any of them to be honest.

For me, Andrea proves she has got enough strength in that sweet ... Read More:

This is effectively the second acoustic album from Ocean Colour Scene, with Simon and Oscar's Live on the Riverboat first and, to be honest, better for those who aren't die-hard fans.

This record is acoustic (for the most park) and shows the way for OCS's move towards their Folkier influences. It is without a number of their greatest hits, and although that may disappoint some, it gives the album a purpose.

My favourite's on the record are probably the first two tracks, along with the eternally brilliant Foxy's Folk Face. At the same time, I'm pleased the album includes the lovely Matilda's England and God's World, which show a side of the band that I'm not sure anyone would have expected in the early days.

This is one for the collection for fans, ... Read More:

190.The Forever Changes Concert: Live at the Royal Festival Hall 2003 by: Arthur Lee

Music : The Forever Changes Concert: Live at the Royal Festival Hall 2003
For those who were fans of Love and Arthur Lee in the sixties, and have heard some of his output since, and heard the reports of the state of his head and his time in jail, it was unimaginable that Arthur would ever do anything worthwhile again. Well, he's gone now (for those who don't know - he died of leukemia last year) but his last burst of energy amazed all. For 2 to 3 years he toured with a band and sometimes an orchestra with total professionalism, recreating his music for old and new fans. The band Baby Lemonade sublimated their own identity to back him and sounded nearly as good and sometimes better than the original Love. His voice was nearly as good as of old. This is a film of him with full orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London, recreating his one-off, off-the-wall, timeless masterpiece ... Read More:
