Poor Hole. If only Courtney wasn't Courtney they'd have been taken much more seriously all along. Maybe, the day will one day come when this classic, brilliant album gets the credit it deserves. First off, the songs are well-crafted and seriously hooky, without resorting to the poppiness of Celebrity Skin. They're proper rock/grunge anthems with roaring vocals and massive melody lines. Lyrically... well, not many bands can match Hole. It's rare (rare indeed) to find full-bodied rock songs that so explicitly and uncompromisingly tell the tale from the female point of view. Okay. I think that this album is a great lazy summer one that is always good with a couple of beers but to be honest it does bore me, the style of the songs stay the same and even his voice becomes a little irritating after a while. I really just think that this album has a lot of potential but doesn't really cut it for me, it is a 'good' average album

It seems as if Christy Moore has been part of the folk scene for almost as long as there has been a folk scene; but periodically people will come along who have yet to hear him for one reason or another. This CD would be an ideal introduction, containing many of his greatest songs and covers. In his sleeve notes Christy describes his recent tours with guitarist Declan Sinnott as "the most satisfying period of my working life". This shows in the songs here. Newer songs like "Strangeways" and "Yellow Triangle" sit well alongside great classics - an outstanding version of Natives and the ethereal, timeless Bright Blue Rose. As others have said, this may possibly be the best live album ever! I do especially like the extended piano jam on "Dixie Chicken" and the Tower of Power Horns on "Mercenary Territory" and "Day or Night".

This second half of 1969 Live isn't quite the tour de force that Volume 1 is - it's slightly patchy by comparison. But its high points are still very high indeed. Both CDs contain material recorded over a series of concerts in San Francisco in late November/early December 1969 (the majority) with a few tracks from a concert in Dallas a few weeks earlier. But the sound quality from the two sources is so similar that it sounds as if it could all have come from one night. Ocean first appeared on Lou Reed's debut solo album; the Velvets had recorded several studio versions but the slow, stately 10 minute version here is definitive and thoroughly epic. Ok, obviously this is not the visual aspect of the concert/tour, but it does capture the best of the best from the performances over the 3 nights. I can deffinately feel the energy and emotion delivered by Robbie, his band and his audience, and listening to it through the headphones at vol 25 is just like being next to loud speakers at a live performance. He is very honest when he says that they are "about to witness the best show in the world right now", but I would rather have heard the DVD's "and for the next 2 hours, your arse is mine!" I think it's fantastic what he did with the song She's the One, and the spooky intro to Nan's Song is great. The screaming bit in Let Me Entertain You and the audience participation through We Will Rock You and Angels is clearly ... Read More:

In my younger days, I would fairly often buy an album quite spontaneously, and Carly Simon’s Greatest Hits Live is one of my better purchases of that type. I was familiar with a few of her songs, especially You’re So Vain, but I can’t say I was ever really a fan, so I don’t really know why I was drawn to this CD at the time I bought it. This album certainly made me a Carly fan when I listened to it, though. I love her uniquely flowing, soothing voice. Several of the tracks on this CD are immediately recognizable when you hear them: Nobody Does It Better (which served as the theme song for a James Bond movie), the aforementioned You’re So Vain, It Happens Everyday, Coming Around Again, and Anticipation.
