Bobby and BB are obviously huge stars in their own right.

Incredibly, the sum here is greater than the parts.

Whether they bring out the best in each other, or they are competing for attention or whatever - they both play out of their skins on this disc.

BB finds his old Memphis passion again! In my opinion he can tend to the safe and the bland. But here he cooks.

Its a sweaty soulful, bluesed up affair and a textbook example of club atmosphere crammed onto a recording.

When I first heard B.B.King's "Live at the Regal" I'm afraid I was disappointed - I already had a copy of "Blues is King" which I thought was a much better live record (and I still do). OK the sound wasn't brilliant on the original vinyl release and is no better on this CD but the performance is wonderful and the audience also play their part in urging him on, you can almost smell the sweat and smoke in the club. (I have a real picture in my mind of the club and find it hard to believe I wasn't there sat in the audience when it was recorded!) There are some great songs- Willie Nelson's "Nightlife", "Tired of your jive", "Buzz me" and the way "Gambler's blues" builds is fantastic. The band is great and I really enjoy all the show business patter ... Read More:

Both the rating, and the title of this review only apply to Reflections In Blue. I LOVE this album - I first bought it on LP back in the 70's, and I still have it on my iPod today. It's classic soul-blues, or perhaps that should be Blues-Soul. The 'other' LP on this CD is awful, I listened to it once and hated it, and have never felt tempted to try it again. Basically it's country. Virtually all the tracks on RIB are very good/great, but special mention must be made of 'Soul Of A Man', and 'If I Weren't A Gambler'. The latter has an absolutely terrific bass line which locks in with the horns in amazing fashion. 10 out of 5 for that one, if it were possible! The playing an arrangements on this album are absolutely first class, with the sole exception of 'Same ... Read More:

The late great Sam Phillips thought that The Howlin' Wolf was the greatest artist he had worked with. As he had also discovered Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis among others this can be considered noteworthy praise. This CD shows why, tracing his music from his first proper single, Moanin' At Midnight (1951) through to the 1970 re-make of The Red Rooster (the original 1961 version is also included). As the Rolling Stones had recorded it as a hit single (renamed Little Red Rooster) and then exposed him to the American TV audience by introducing him on Shindig, it is fitting that Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts are among the all-star band accompanying him, and the track begins with Eric Clapton receiving instruction from the Wolf on how to play it.
