what a fantasic album. i first heard of the penguin cafe orchestra on irelands classic radio whilst on holiday there. on my return home i bought a copy of "a brief history" and my ears have been truly treated. if you have heard anything by the pco but dont own any of their stuff, but like this sort of music then take the plunge you wont regret it and just like me treat your ears.

You don't get much for your money with this EP but what you do get is quality from the get go to the let go. If you've never heard Flight of the Conchords before this CD makes an excellent (if slightly pricey) introduction to the funniest novelty folk duo on the planet. If you've already got the HBO TV series, buy the BBC radio series before you get this. It's almost as good as the TV show and you get a lot of Conchords for your money. But do buy this, it's just as good as anything else the Conchords have done and if you loved them on TV or on the radio you won't want to miss out.

Well, whilst I don't think this is the best of the three recordings made of Derek & Clive, it still deserves five stars. It also contains the best sketch, The Critics!! As everyone else has said, this isn't for the faint hearted. It's vile at time, cringeworthy, totally un-pc and such a refreshing change from todays stadium comedians. Not to be listened to within earshot of anyone with heart condition as they either have a heart attack from the content or die laughing. Not for kids, conservatives, prudes or you nan. Nonetheless, Derek & Clive are pure punk comedy gold. God rest their soles and our soles!!

This is brilliant ! See What A Morning , Speak O Lord , Oh Church Arise , Beneath The Cross of Jesus , The Power Of The Cross and In Christ Alone and Accross The Land are meaningful & inspiring modern hymns . The truths that they express about the timeless love of God & how Christians must let that be reflected in their lives by following Christ are just amazing! The tunes are very good & they are sung to perfection by Mrs Getty . This music has been a great source of inspiration to me when one feels that ones faith is under pressure as it reminds me that we can reach out to a God who loves us so much that he sacrificed his son to redeem sinners . There is deep unease in this album; like another reviewer in these pages, I cannot help but be struck by the prescience of the piece, capturing an African/Arabian world ill at-ease under the yoke of what were then growing global American and other western interests. The narratives of Byrne's "Remain in Light" have now been jettisoned in favour of sonic landscapes which perfectly evoke another world, real or imagined, far more vividly even than the brilliant "Listening Wind" from the Talking Heads disc. Not as some have said, the original version of 'Sir Henry at Rawlinson End' but by far and away the most concise. It's all you really wanted to know about Henry Rawlinson in an easy to swallow, beautifully performed hour. And I've enjoyed this hour for what must amount to weeks in repeated plays. Even now, a word or phrase can suddenly shine out as a meaning or reference becomes clear. The narrative and songs are examples of Vivian at his very best and it comes as no surprise that this album continues to enthrall listeners decades after it's first release. Unfortunately, this is no longer the Ultimate Video Collection. I guess we'll have to wait until "Weird Al" retires or dies for that. However, if you get this and his latest album Straight Outta Lynwood, you'll have a fantastic collection of songs and videos that will keep you entertained and amused for a very long time. Most of the songs on here are parodies. They cover lots of different styles of music - folky, pop, rap, soul, rock and grunge. And Weird Al nails every single one. A superb musician, singer and arranger. This man should be huge here in the UK but for some reason, he's not. I don't know why. Buy this. It's brilliant. And so cheap!!

It's easy - with the success of Mamma Mia! - to forget that before ABBA, the Swedish "Fab Four" were respected artistes in their own right. Perhaps none more so than Agnetha Faltskog, who was heading for a significant career as a singer-songwriter before she met Bjorn Ulvaeus. She wrote many of the songs on these discs and one can only wonder what she might have achieved had she lived in Britain or America. These five albums - despite being in Swedish - have given me such pleasure. Even in her native tongue (ie without her disarming English pronunciation) the voice is curiously plaintive, vulnerable and appealing.
