My 2 1/2year old son loves this cd and he wants to listen to it all the time. It has taken the stress out of journeys in the car-and I find myself sing the songs later in the day!! - brilliant CD would recommend it to everyone.

I just had to give my opinion on this cd as I had ordered it on the recomendations of the other reviewers, first of all if you are not a fan of david bedford then give this a miss as it sounds to me like it was cheaply put together, I know this was recorded in the 70's but there are better alternatives out there from that decade. robert powells voice as the narator gives it some credit but is drowned out too often by the music, I gave this cd a few plays just to see if it would grow on me but I have just taken it to the charity shop.

Not a bad CD. But The Wurzels seem to have jazzed up some of the songs, bit of a disco beat. My 7 year old thought they were good to dance to. Having said that they do sound good, but not what true Wurzel fans might expect. Some of the song I remember Adge Cutler singing, and thought Pete Budd's versions wern't as good. He seemed to be trying to sing them in Adge's style & personally thought that didn't work. If you prefer the Wurzels now then you will probably enjoy this CD. Fans of the older stuff, namly Adge, may not.

Two stories are truly gruesome and VERY violent. Not prince overthrowing dragon in woods to save princess, gruesome and violent. I mean creeping envy, revenge and sadistic murder of an elderly lady and a young boy (amongst other things)! DEFINITELY NOT for all children by any means. Just had to add this review so more critical (discerning?) parents could be warned if needed. The remaining stories are great. However, The Little Match Girl is very, very sad! But, so true to how some children today must struggle while those with far more than they need walk by. A deeply poignant tale. We were very disappointed BUT only with the two rotten ones. This soundtrack is certainly a popular one today but in my opinion, highly overrated. When I saw the movie, I thought that the hobbit music was a standout but remembered little else and the same is true for the CD. It excels in atmosphere and size but (apart from the hobbit music) has very little character; something that I feel is essential in a soundtrack of this sort. If you're hoping to hear the 'Ring Theme' (which is repeated over and over in the first film), it appears only once on the CD and the Nazgul music is a little dominating and repetitive for just one disc (even though the choir does send a nice shiver down the spine). The best thing about this soundtrack is the fact it has given Howard Shore's profile a much-needed push and I hope ... Read More:

The kids love it, we love it. Full of silly sing-a-long tunes that stick in your head and after only a few listens the kids knew all the words. The kids are in question are home-educated boys aged 6 and 5. Very educational!!!!!!!!!!! DVD brilliant too. Warning: It is very AMERICAN, which can be mildly grating after lots of listens but this is only a very minor irritation. (Sorry TMBG!, we do love you though :-))
