Ken Dodd truly knows how to deliver a song. It would be easy to think that "Doddy" would struggle to sing the likes of "She" and "So Deep Is The Night" but believe me he delivers them with real style, class and you can detect his clear love of the joy of music and singing. There are a few tracks on which he doesn't excel but at least 10 on this album which are brilliantly delivered and which you can't fail to sing along to. The man is undoubtedly an entertainment business legend and icon - somebody who still delivers a 40 date tours for 5 hours plus per night! This is the greatest album of the 1970's, the album that introduced ambient music to the world,confirmed Eno's genius, and inspired Bowie to make his 'Berlin' albums.Only five of the songs contain vocals. The opening song is an avant garde cracker that pulls us dramatically into Eno's pioneering sonic landscape. AGW'S mood is by turns reflective (St Elmo's Fire),elegiac (Golden hours), serene (the title song,The Big Ship, Becalmed, Zawinul/Lava), sombre (In Dark Trees,Spirits drifting) romantic,(I'll come running, Everything merges with the night) and adventurous (Sky saw,Over fire island) And Little Fishes is sublimely odd. I only really came to appreciate Sibelius in the last couple of years, travelling through time from Beethoven, Schumann, and Brahms; I'm glad to have taken the trouble. Although I find something a little sterile about some aspects of the performances of some parts of this bargain box, I guess that Sir Colin Davis is allowed to relax a little on this umpteenth traversal of Sibelius's orchestral music. The RCA sound quality is just fine and I agree with the other reviewers that this set would make a great choice for Sibelius beginners; it certainly proved to be so for me!

In an age where epithets such as "visionary", "genius" and "unique" are bandied about as cheap and undeserving labels to whatever media studies graduate laptop project makes Dazed and Confused's cover this month - it is always rewarding to accidentally chance upon something that, whilst clearly not going to be everyone's cup of tea, actually deserves such adjectives. I saw this CD in a shop in Bath and I liked the simple cover. I liked the title and also I liked the fact that there were 49 songs in 45 minutes on it. And it was by a man called Ivor. Ivor Cutler, accompanied with a creaky harmonium, proceeds to reel off random observations and harrowing sparrow tales in a voice that reminds me of the old Scottish soldier on Dads Army and ... A must for anyone who is capable of thought, this collection will stun you on its first hearing (this is normal, it will always happen), the lyrics/poems having a raw power that will make you wonder why you have never been able to write as he can. Scared of no-one, there can be no doubt JCC is fearless in what he does write, but that's not to be thought of as arrogance in any way at all, no, it's observation of the highest order - he has something to say for sure. As for others here commenting on the music accompanying the words, I can only say that the strident/near discordant style actually enhances the tracks for me, in that respect Beasley Street is a tour de force - it's not music plus lyrics, it's music times lyrics. A great collection from an unsung hero.

ZTT were one of THE great record labels during my formative years and this beautifully fashioned collection is everything I hoped it would be. Pretty much all of the big hits and Trevor Horn productions are included, alongside a lot of lesser known but often equally interesting tunes by artists like The Frames, Heights of Abraham and Tara, who was Joan Collin's daughter, don't you know. I didn't. Plus you get a DVD disc featuring 18 ZTT videos. Some of them have dated as you might expect, but there are some real gems here - like Shane MacGowan's `That Woman's Got Me Drinking', which was directed by and stars Johnny Depp, the rare Video Destructo version of Frankie's Two Tribes and Close (To The Edit) by the brilliant Art of Noise, with it's satanic pixie smashing ... The real stand out track on this great album for me is "The Old Green Iron Lamp", a truely beautiful and poignant song showing the side of Harding that "Bombers Moon" was to bring even more to the fore.

I had seen many of the performances in this set recommended separately so to have them all together in one set at such a low price is great. The sound is very good and even if you only like half the music on these CDs, this is still a fantastic bargain.

This outstanding and astonishing album was recorded in 1978 and released in 1979. That's almost 30 years ago. Although when listening to it, one gets the feeling that it could have been released a couple of years ago. That's how fresh and resonant Vangelis' music can be. This incredible album starts off with a stunning opener "Chung Kuo". You almost feel like you're transported back to a forgotten time through China's Dynasties. You hear raging percussion and assorted sound effects along with more toned down keyboards. Then there's the enchanting and haunting feel of "The Long March" and the sensuously gorgeous "The Tao Of Love". It finishes off with "Himalaya", the longest track at 10 mins 53 secs which is very epic in feel and I just love its use of different sounds of ... Read More:

This collection also includes Teddy Bears picnic! A wonderful CD. I was born in the 60s and a lot of these records found their way on to the radio well into the 70s. We have just had our own baby and I thoroughly recommend this album for waking a sleepy baby up. This album will bring a smile to any grown up listening: fond memories and some very humourous lyrics in places!
