Now we know why "Moonlight, Music and You" (from the KFC ads) was missing off the original "60s Soul Mix" collection - because they were planning Volume 2!!

Of course the KFC connection is just a marketing ruse to help sell the thing, and it shouldn't really be needed. For this second album the compilers have dipped a little deeper into the Motown and Northern Soul barrell and, on CD1 at least, come up with some less familiar, but no less groovy, numbers, from lesser known acts but also from the likes of Diana Ross & The Supremes and The Marvelettes. CD2 has more of the well known tracks that many people will already have on earlier compilations, but overall there is sufficient variety and novelty here to make this a worthwhile investment.

By 1973 the golden age of Tamla Motown in the UK was about over. The music was more diverse in style than in the 60s. They were still making some good music.

Stevie Wonder had entered his most creative and successful period. The two hits here are from the first of his handful of albums that set charts around the world alight. Marvin Gaye also had his own thing going on, but was not as hot internationally as Stevie was. 'Lets Get It On' sold tens of thousands on import here, which meant there was little sales inertia when it was finally released.

Glad & The Lads get three tracks which marks their Chartbuster apex. With typical British quirkiness the biggest US hit, the Grammy winning 'Neither One Of Us' was the smallest hit ... Read More:

For all that albums like 'Talking Book' and 'Songs in the Key of Life' are lauded as his best work, Stevie never put together a more consistently brilliant album than this. Unashamedly pop-orientated, this album bounces along from first to last and every single track could have been a single. Best of the lot, however, are tracks two, three and four - a fantastic reworking of the Beatles' "We Can Work It Out", the titular classic "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours" and the wonderful gospel epic "Heaven Help Us All". If you've never listened to a Stevie album - buy this, you'll be hooked. If you love Stevie and don't own this - shame on you!

97.Conversation Peace by: Stevie Wonder
September 09, 1996
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Conversation Peace
1995's "Conversation Peace" was the last album of original material by Stevie Wonder and its sad to think that he has only released two full length albums in the nineties as he is such a musical genius and we would all benefit from hearing the brilliance of his music. However despite the fact that he is no longer the prolific artist of the seventies, this album is still brilliant and includes some of the best tracks of his career such as the beautiful track "For Your Love" (a track which has so much vision its hard to believe he's blind). The album is really a mix of urban music and the styles of hip hop, reggae, soul, blues and gospel all given the Stevie Winder feel. The album is brilliant and is as fresh as anything he has ever released. Overall it's a great album ... Read More:

Amazing how much stuff the TM labels recorded and then dumped in the vaults! Were they doing it for a bet?.
Fortunately the CD Age came about and there was no reason to keep so much stuff hidden.
But their logics are more difficult to comprehend. They sign up a 9 year old girl Lisa Lewis whose mother was one of the Lewis Sisters.I mean great to revive the idea of the Hot Boppin' Girl but why not run with it?
TM were into signing up ex band singers like Billy Eckstine and Connie Haines. They signed up Sammy Davis Jr and they even signed up Pat Boone who cut 2 albums for their Melody sub.
Obviously aimed at collectors but so much here is better than some of what became the hits to my mind

Motown in its early days before the rot set in at the end of the decade. Here is the label signing up a stack of unknowns because the money made from 1961 had made it possible-the Miracles, the Marvelettes and Mary Wells.
This was the year that more hitmakers were added to propagate the legend which by now had the Beatles and the Stones in their corner.
Berry Gordy was nearly as keen to sign up white singers as black ones and Bunny Paul had been a one time Hot Boppin' Girl-an early exponent of RnR in the wake of Ella Mae Morse.Appantly he had Loretta Lynn in mind re the songs Come and get these memories-which Martha & the Vandellas did in the end
The Valadiers who open this set were a white group who were one of the earliest to attempt a black sound years ... Read More:
