This early 1970's album was the only Diana Ross LP that was overlooked when re-issuing her catalogue on CD. We had to wait about 25 years, till 2007, until this ommission was cleared.

Was it worth the wait? For Diana fans it surely is. This expanded edition is lovingly put together, with al lot of bonus material dragged from the Motown vaults. Who's loves Diana's thin voice will be presented a few new gems. The love and care that was put in this edition makes you hunger for more re-issuing by the guys who did this fantastic job.

From a more mainstraim point of view it can be understanded that Motown didn't work hard to get this album re-issued. It has simply tot little hit potention and there are hardly any songs that ... Read More:

Who would know or remember now that the first of these two albums made No 1 on the UK album chart. Not much soul stuff did that at the time.

The pairing of Diana Ross and The Supremes with the Temptations was an inspired moved and helped both groups. In the U.S., The Supremes were losing R&B airplay and sales, with the black audience tiring of their pop excesses. If any black act lost R&B airplay, after a while no pop station would play ther product either (this is still too true today!). The Temptations restored the girls' 'street cred' and got them back in with their natural core audience.

The Temptations were trying to break into the lucrative caberet market. By 1968, The Supremes had that one cracked! Love her ... Read More:

133.The Best of - Great Soul Classics by: Edwin Starr

Music : The Best of - Great Soul Classics
Edwin Starr born as Edwin Hatcher cut his first single as a member of a doowop group in 1957 and ended up living in Worcestershire England.
After a string of hit singles in the 60s came the chart topper War (what good is it) which like Barry McGuire's Eve of Destruction relates to everything today.
In the 70s he hit in the U K with HAPPY Radio-a great song which had an even greater cover by Michaela Strachan.
Starr did plenty of covers including the Joe Tex hit and that wonderfully titled one called Oops Upside your head.

This album gives an insight to Gladys Knight, a truly amazing and soulful singer, who is even better live. This album is not complete, in my eyes, as they have omitted to include Help Me Make It Through The Night, nonetheless it is still an enjoyable to listen to.

Used by producer Norman Whitfield to further expand his psychedelic-funk Motown sound in the early Seventies, the Undisputed Truth recorded one masterpiece Smiling faces sometimes and some great tracks What it is, Law of the land, a quite different version of Papa was a rollin' stone and Marvin Gaye's What's going on.
Afterwards their sound became even more heavy, boogie-oriented with space-futuristic themes. Not awful but these tracks present a rather faceless group and pale compared to their marvelous start where the Truth seemed to open a new chapter of socially conscious, funked up soul.

Always unfairly overlooked, Michael Jackson's third solo album at Motown is my personal favourite. Even today the title track, With A Child's Heart and Happy are pretty poignant songs when reflecting on the man's career and up there with his best.

1973 was perhaps MJ's most prolific year of recording music, with many unreleased gems from this era slowly trickling through over the decades, and I know of a load more still in the vault. His voice was just about to change, and Music & Me was perhaps the last time you get to hear his vocals as a "child". He truly lets it all out on Eurphoria and the classic Morning Glow from the musical "Pippin".

I'd recommend the whole album from start to finish for any fan of ... Read More:

Being someone who grew up in an era of mass produced nonsense like "the Spice Girls" "Boyzone" and "The Venga Boys" just to name a few, I often found myself listening to older music. As I grew older I found I was listening to more older stuff than new stuff!

But it just seems that whats on the radio or in the charts these days gets worse and worse. Which is why, when you find an album like this...purely by accident, it makes you long for the days of decent music!

I've never particuarly been a fan of Kiki, yet her Motown tracks are so differnt from her later work. For those of you that like that classic "Motown Sound" this is certainly that sound in its prime. In my opinion, it's the rarer Motown soungs that sound the best, and from what ... Read More:
