Diana Ross had often been over-looked by critics as an important albums act which really is unjustified when you take into consideration the passion she conveys in her work which was always to a thorough high standard in the 1970's. Albums such as Diana Ross (1970), Surrender (1971),Lady Sings The Blues Origanal Motion Picture Soundtrack (1972), Touch Me In The Morning (1973), Diana Ross (1976) and Baby It's Me (1977) are pure examples of the quality and high standard of work she maintained in the 1970's. But ultimatley she came up with her most solid set at the end of the decade in 1979 with the fabulous, The Boss album.

Ashford and Simpson always knew how to make great records for Diana Ross and you could argue that they were ... Read More:

I agree with the previous reviewer that the majority of these twofers in this series are mismatched, however this does not lesson the enjoyment I get from listening to the rest of the Temptations twofers.

In the case of Cloud Nine/Puzzle People you have two fantastic albums which were actually released one after the other. This in my view allows the listener to hear how the more grittier sound of the Whitfield-Strong era developed.

This development of the more socially aware Temptations, plus the fact that each member of the group has a chance to employ their own distinctive vocal talent makes this release a must for, not just fans of the Temptations, but of lovers of the motown sound.

These were Gladys Knight & The Pips first and second albums for Motown. They are repackaged with three re-recordings of their earlier biggest hits, and a non-album B side, co-written and also recorded by Marvin Gaye.

The standout track of 'Everybody Needs Love' has to be their incendiary version of '...Grapevine'. Lets not argue about whether they or Marvin recorded it first, but Glad and The Lads' was released a good year before, and sold two and a half million copies (mostly in the US). Also here are two British hits 'Take Me In Your Arms And Love Me', still on radio platlists, and 'Just Walk In My Shoes' which got re-released and was a hit in '72, following interest by DJ Johnnie Walker. The rest of the album is more than filler, ... Read More:

This CD is a collection of classic love songs recorded by Wonder....some of which have been written himself, with a few tracks from other artistes thrown in for good measure, from the haunting self-written Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer, to the brilliant cover version of We Can Work It Out, the only version I actually think is better than the Beatles'!!! The harmonica solo of the title track from the film Alfie is also awesome & the whole CD shows off Wonder's musical, vocal & songwriting talents to their very best advantage. A must in your collection if you're an ardent Stevie Wonder fan!!

Before the Beatles few had heard of Tamla Motown and in 1963 their biggest star was Mary Wells who did an entire album of Beatles songs for another label as well as being a special guest of the Beatles.
When they covered You really got a hold on me the song was less than a year old via the Miracles.Another Motown song they covered was Money (thats what I want). In the U K Motown music was issued on the London American and Oriole labels from 1960 to 1963 and was few and far between.
Motown's first foray into the music from England was via a Supremes album called A Littl Bit Of Liverpool-which by its ridiculous title showed it was going to be some time before America knew much about Liverpool when this collection included songs by the Animals and ... Read More:

Since the early 60's The four Tops have been the first and the best of the tamla stable of stars, this album albeit made in the 70's has not aged, the strong vocal's of Levi Stubbs have given this the distinctive Four Tops sound.

The album has stood the test of time and should it be release again know it would surely open up a sound to younger listens that they would certainly appreciate.

With POP IDOLS bringing sixties and seventies music back to the youth of today, there should be a renaisnce in motown music.

Leon Ware, for those astute enought to read the song credit's on Marvin Gaye's 'I Want You', is recognised as the songwriting genius behind the entire album. His caramel smooth string-horn ensembles were promoted by the experienced hand of Quincy Jones on the inspirational 'Body Heat'. This earlier album is testament to Ware's considerable songwriting and vocal abilities. The swathe of harmonies and plush orchestrations that define 'musical massage' caress the auditory senses of the listener. Immerse yourself into the blissful harmonies, angsty melodies, and sensual sounds delivered with aplomb and genuine funk by the same line-up as 'I Want You'. Minnie Ripperton's stratospheric harmonies on the duet's are noteworthy. The stand out tracks are 'With You', an unfinished ... Read More:
