I bought this album because it was cheap, and I am interested in jazz. Not that I am a jazz fanatic. I am usually an electronic buff, but want to explore other genres as well to not get the tunnel vision one tends to get with just listening to one genre. So I dare sometimes dive deep into jazz. Not that I have gotten the chance much, so this CD would be a first attempt.

Well, to be frank, I was mildly disappointed. This is not jazz, I know that much. This is soul of various origins. Granted some tracks are really old, and some are very good. But if soul was what I wanted, which is not the case, I would have gone to the local gas station and bought a 10 cd package of the stuff.

Many of these tracks are more famous ... Read More:

Music : Singles Collection
Includes most of their (many) hits on a great value disk.

All the well known tracks are here, from their 3 main labels:

Very good examples of 'the Motown Sound' of the 60s (e.g.Reach Out I'll Be There,Standing In The Shadows Of Love, Bernadette, Walk Away Renee etc)

Plus some hits from when they went to ABC such as Keeper of the Castle and later stuff released on the Casablanca label like When She Was My Girl, sounding like the O Jays in the prime of their Philly days.

Oh, and the pop tune Loco In Acapulco, from the Phil Collins film 'Buster'

All in all & lot of hits & a cheap way to replace your old records.

The 4 Tops still exist & toured the UK last ... Read More:

I am listening to this CD as I write this & I promise you it is absolute 100% quality, all the way through. These early recordings are an absolute treat. Stevie Wonder is not & never has been one of my very favourite artists but despite that,I still enjoy his music & I could not recommend this album more highly - the genius of the man is evident on this set of recordings. Wonderful in every way & a steal at the price - quality like this should surely cost more ? Go mad & treat yourself !

Much has been written about the original release and I share the view that it truly is one of the great albums; transcending both time and genre.
What the reviews here fail to mention are the treasures to be found within the live recording from The Kennedy Center. Close listening to this concert reveals moments of utter beauty. The slowed moments referred to by other reviewers enhance the depth of feeling and this can be felt too in the reactions of the audience who respond rapturously to Gaye's heartfelt improvisations, backed perfectly by some wonderful playing by the supporting musicians. The recording may indeed lack the polish of the studio release but its extremes of intensity and subtlety in performance showcase a true genius at ... I saw this release receive a five star review in Uncut magazine and, having learnt to treat this source with suspicion, I did a little further research and after seeing many more positive comments, decided to go for it. I am very glad I did. This album has been the soundtrack to my summer, often being played daily.

This CD contains the two complete albums "Syreeta"(1972) and "Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta"(1974). Apparently each album was critically well received on release but achieved only moderate commercial success(charting at 185 and 116 respectively on Billboard). What you get is Twenty tracks, eight by Wonder, nine by (Syreeta)Wright/Wonder, one by Wright and two covers(one of which being the unexpected, but fantastically ... Read More:

58.Off the Wall by: Michael Jackson

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Off the Wall
Michael Jackson's career after this has been swamped in rumour, mystery and stupendous success, but this monumental 1979 release is possibly one of the best albums ever made because of both the innocence, and the fact that Jackson demonstrated what a mature artist he was, rather than just the lead singer out of the Jackson 5. His own composition "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" is an incredible opener, and "Rock With You" is the best song he ever recorded, ever. Only the fantastic Thriller possibly rivals this, and thereafter, Jackson's musical recognition disappeared in a sea of rumours and plastic surgery.

After the runaway success of Volume 1, which made No 2 on the album chart, this Volume 2 followed less than a year later.

Volume 2 did not sell as well, but still made No 8. In spite of the growing popularity of Motown in Britain, and more airplay due to Radio 1 pumping out of millions of transistor radios, this one contained less British hits than Volume 1. I think that is because they songs were chosen from a shorter period than the first one.

My favorite here is Diana Ross & The Supremes 'Reflections', a fine tamborine driven masterpiece. Simple on one level, but there is a lot going on in there. The writers and producers at Motown knew how to get the best out of their artists.

Motown writer and producer Deke Richards who played a major role in the Supremes "Love Child" single and album was as he put it, "given the keys to the Rolls Royce of Motown." Along with Hal Davis and Berry Gordy, they masterminded Diana Ross' second solo album originally released in 1970, and only now available in North America in an expanded compact disc format. Worth the wait? You bet!
In the liner notes, Richards recalled Gordy wanting "something different out on Diana yesterday" and although "Everything Is Everything" is somewhat heavy with cover tunes, Ross finds nooks and crannies in familiar songs to weave her magic.
Diana Ross was in her vocal prime at the time of this recording and standout tracks include the Anna Gaye and Marvin Gaye composition ... Read More:
