Look, if you've given this album a poor review then stop, put on a good pair of headphones, and listen to this album properly without skipping tracks. Quite frankly this is the most moving thing I've heard for a long time.

I'll be the first to admit at being sceptical about radioheads departure into experimental territory, leaving behind the masterpieces of bends\ok. The first listen of kid A was a shock to the system but now it's one of my favourites, but things have really clicked, on in rainbows, it's a more stripped down and directsounding album with some truely amazing moments, and works much better as a whole than the previous album. It's rare to find a band that have the ability to constantly evolve and find new musical territory. "All i need" could of come straight of the soundtrack for requiem to a dream, theres that sense of disspair with a glint at the end of the tunnel. In short get yourself a good hi-fi, turn the lights out and let in-rainbows take you ... Read More:

We caught Rachel Unthank at Cambridge Folk Festival in 07 and were blown away. It reminded me of some of the cutting age post punk stuff (hardly sounds folk!) in the early to mid 80s, not that we can trace much of this but vague memories of Peel, and support groups to the Nightingales and Terry and Jerry (sorry I am indulging myself here).

So after playing the Bairns to death, and tiring of it a little, totally surprised when we saw them live again to appreciate how wonderful this is and to have to play it once again.

Brilliant that a whole new audience can now appreciate it through the mercury nominations and even more wonderful to meet Becky at the Big Chill, even if I had forgotten the camera at the time (hope that she doesn't ... Read More:

Estelle has a good voice no doubt about it and American Boy is one of the songs of the summer. Sadly, such elements have failed to contribute to a memorable album which feels like a rushed cash in with production values so tired, you can ever hear them yawn!

American Boy sounded really fresh with a brilliant use of horns but the rest of the album is just derivative R&B that could have been produced by any female artist within the genre. Estelle struggles to stamp her own identity on any of the tracks and she just sounds like a vocalist singing someone else's work. Generally there is little passion and soul in this, I found myself barely noticing any differences between tracks. As a result, it feels more like lounge music than anything else.

After watching them at Reading 08 after seeing them back in 05 I thought it necessary to do this;

Puzzle is not an excruiatingly bad album as lots of these reviews are trying to make out. It is just very standard and thats not what Biffy fans expect..if this were an album by any other band I would not have minded but its the band who brought us Some Kind of Wizard, Bodies in Flight and The Go Slow etc. Puzzle just seems like it has very little effort put into it and has just been commercialized. The only track I could honestly say I like was Semi-mental which was a reject from the Infinity Land album.. If you want my advice buy Infinity land, Vertigo and Blackened Sky (also download '98 cathouse gig, not that I condone illegal activities)

After the excellent 'Final Straw', it was expected that Snow Patrol would come up with an album full of bigger tunes and much more ambition aswell. However, that is not the case and this album comes as a big dissapointment.

It's not outright bad, but it certainly shouldn't shouldn't be seen as anything like great. Yes, it does have it's moments. The singles that came off the album are all good. 'You're All I Have' and 'Open Your Eyes' are both catchy tunes. To be honest, 'Chasing Cars' was good at first, but now? Since the song was never off the radio, it became immensely irritating, especially as it is really just a Coldplay rip off. I think this was meant to be Snow Patrol's 'Fix You' but unlike the Coldplay hit, this song is devoid of any emotion.

James Morrison reminds me of Terence Trent Derby with his distinctive vocals and cut down style,very few musical instruments,often just acoustic guitar and drums.Echoes of Stevie Wonder and chords and melodies that have a passing resemblance to other artists' songs complete the mix.I really like this album but it wasn't one that i liked first time of hearing.It's an album you need to play and let it grow on you.It's a little raw and naive in places and a little like a live recording of a busker on a city street corner.No bells and whistles,just a guy relying and believing in his talent.This gives it some originality and credit to James Morrison on producing a stunning album that may not be for everyone but will be enjoyed by most.Recommended.

I was going to mention Clapton's christening of the Les Paul, Marshall setup, but others have beaten me to it. I liken it's impact to what happened to harp playing when Little Walter and other's deciding to blow through the PA or an early guitar amp. They REDEFINED the sound of the instrument.

So all I'll add is the rhetorical question...can you imagine being a teenage Brit, having been reared on the sounds of the Beatles, Jerry and the Pacemakers, or even the Dave Clark Five, wandering into a London club because someone had recommended the Bluesbreakers, and hearing THIS STUFF? Probably as epiphanic as being a white guy in mid 50's Chicago and having the nerve to wander into the Dew Drop Inn and hearing Muddy, Wolf, or later, Otis Rush and Buddy Guy. Simply put, ...
