The dictionary definition of Leukocyte is "White blood cells that fight infections" and this, the final EST album, definitely does that, for this is vintage stuff,i like many others was shocked when Esbjorn was so tragically killed earlier on this year, and listening to various tributes an the BBC and RTE it was obvious what an exceptional talent the man was,so it is with a heavy heart that i listened to this album,ok there may never be another EST album, but believe me they have gone out with a corker, for this is stunning!!
Thia is not Jazz,it is more than that,Piano,Bass and Drums is what it says on the slightly ECM ish cover, but that is only the start for as seems to be with all Nordic music, the atmospherics of the piece add a certain mystique ... Read More:

Oasis breathed much needed life into the British music scene 15 years ago: Their audience was growing tired of waiting for a second Stone Roses effort and was in danger of being lobotomised by an influx of moody shoegazing "college rock" bands from the USA. When I first heard Supersonic and Cigarettes and Alcohol played by the band supporting Verve at a Manchester Uni gig in December 1993, it was a moment of enlightenment. Impatient to know more about Oasis, it was frustrating to discover that it would be a wait of four months before the lads released their first single - but well worth it.

For those who make the comparison to Status Quo, well, it has been said before and it is always better to have your own opinions than to dine out on somebody ... Read More:

The musical equivalent of a war crime. Scouting for Girls have set back the progress of the whole of Western civilization by at least 18 months.

She is grim, her tunes are awful, she can't dance, can't sing and she does insist on cavorting around in leotards, corsets etc and it's just horrible. I've been a Madonna fan since I was a little girl, but it's time she stopped acting like a teenager and just made decent music (if at all possible). It's not about her not being sexaul at her age (as one reviewer tried to insinuate that another had said), it's about her making music and being an entertainer. I personally think she needs to hang it up now, she has never been a good singer but good material and the ability to be a spoilt exibitionist has got her to where she is today, fair play to her, but this album is weak and almost embarassing.
If she is as great as she likes to think she is, then why does ... Read More:

Was wondering what to buy recently when I saw a review of this album and an interview with the singer in a sunday magazine.Turns out that this is a brilliant album, and has traces of blues, gospel, pop, country, and a touch of the brilliant Karen Carpenter about it.

Stand-out tracks for me include the intense deep gospel of Nobody's Fault But Mine and One Cloud, and the lighter yet still uplifting pop of So Sublime and i Shall Be Released.

A varied collection then in some ways, yet with a pleasing undercurrent of blues running throughout the whole album to string it all together and give it a sense of identity.

Really uplifting and at times extremely powerful! For once the hype may be justified!

To me this set of eleven songs seems like This Is The Life - a deserving worldwide hit, with six million YouTube views at the time of writing - and ten charming variations. Collectively, they just about pull their weight, and occasionally get close to genius (e.g. 'Poison Prince', in my humble opinion). I very much hope we will see one or two more big ideas in the second album.

Just listening to the album as I write this. I remember coming across Glasvegas in January of this year. Since then their demos have been almost a daily play for me, Stabbed has transformed into a dark piece although maybe this is to portray the importance and relevance of the lyric/song inspiration. Every song is a journey in some way. Sad, inspiring and elevating songs that fill your body and soul with hope and fear (sometimes in the same song) amongst other feelings. This album will be remembered because of the all round quality and the fact that it is genuine and from the heart. People will relate to the songs for the right reasons. We must remember music is an art and if this album was in a gallery it would no doubt be one of the most important, expensive and guarded pieces ... Read More:

So, here we go with studio album number 24 from the legendary Motorhead, a band whose status is assured, and who have reached that point in their career where they are almost beyond criticism. Now, as a fully paid up Motorheadbanger, I'm not going to be the one to start, but this is the third album in a row after Inferno and Kiss Of Death where the band has gone into the studio to be produced by Cameron Webb, and it's virtually interchangeable with them. Which isn't a bad thing, just a predictable one. So if someone asks me what the new Motorhead album sounds like, I can simply reply that it sounds like everything else they've done this century.

Now, I don't want you to go thinking that you shouldn't bother with Motorizer, because it is a good Motorhead album with some ... Read More:

50.I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too by: Martha Wainwright

Believe me, it's usually the other way round. Usually I have nothing but praise for the man and his show that introduce me to so many fantastic artists. But in the case of this album, seeing Martha Wainwright perform on that show before purchasing `I Know You're Married, but I've Got Feelings Too' has ruined me, because if I hadn't seen her perform live I would have been blissfully unaware that in the right form this collection of songs presents an absolutely incredible portrait of a uniquely charismatic singer/song-writer. But not when they're delivered with decidedly less passion on an over-produced album that is not a proper showcase for these beautifully written songs and the tortured/passionate voice that always performs to perfect spine-tingling effect in the right setting.
