I have been listening to the music of Paul Simon since i can remember.
What you get here is not a rebel, a follower of trends, a commercial artist or a controversial one.
What we get with Paul simon is some of the most beautiful songs ever in the English Language, performed with the respect they deserve.
As one part of the duo Simon and Garfunkel, Paul Simon wrote : The Boxer, sounds of silence, Bridge over Troubled water and Mrs Robinson to name a few.
What strikes me as a surprise in this collection is how several of the songs here are of the same quality if not superior to the above.
ie American Tune, Slip Slidin away, Still crazy after all these years, Kodachrome, Gone at Last, The Boy in the Bubble.

For anyone who likes a disco beat, great melodies, classic pop tunes and anthemic feel good music, this album is for you.

There is such clarity to this music. Each song is a well produced package, beautifully honed into a perfect pop classic. They can be played in any order and one would wonder which song would be selected as the next 'Single' - they are all worthy of release.

It seems rare in this day to find a whole album that can be played over and over. And be listened to the whole way through.

Just fab to drive to. Uplifting, energising, catchy. Great mixes that are simple, very effective and not 'over done'.

Apart from the re-recordings identified in other reviews here, I am certain that Duane Eddy's "Rebel Rouser" falls into that category - DESPITE being credited to Jamie Records [his original label] on the sleeve. Also Sandy Nelson's Teen Beat seems to contain extraneous "live" noises - possibly overdubbed onto the original studio - & "hit" version.

Given that EMI are listed as being involved in the compilation, why could they not include the original - an undeniably superior, Columbia [therefore EMI] recordings rather than the far-too-widely available re-recordings. Very disappointed overall - the TITLE listing looked great, but the whole thing spoiled by sloppy research & track info : Brian Berg - is credited - perhaps there ... Read More:

Formed in Franklin, Tennessee in 2004 Paramore are a four piece band led by teenage female vocalist Hayley Williams backed by Josh Farro on guitar/vocals, brother Zac on drums and Jeremy Davis on bass.

Paramore - the unusual name is derived from a former member's maiden name and the word `paramour' meaning secret lover - are variously described as power pop, punk/alternative rock and emo, and their influences, according to their website, are all US bands of similar punk/rock/indie/alternative styles.

Orange-haired, brightly dressed singer Hayley cuts a striking image and the comparisons to Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne are inevitable, but this is no brat teenager-in-a-tantrum pleading for understanding, ... Read More:

White Denim's debut album `Workout Holiday' has been received rapturously by the critics and it is easy to see why. The record is an exhilarating mix-up of styles; raw garagey-bluesy indie rock augmented with unusual sound effects and off-kilter changes of pace and direction. There is lots of fun to be had trying to pin down the band's musical influences; White Stripes, Pavement and even Butthole Surfers came to mind for me.

But is it any good? The answer is yes indeed. The opening track `Let's Talk About It' is superb, driven by an instantly catchy raw guitar riff. `Shakespeare Shake' has a tremendous grinding bass-line around which guitars riff and jangle in an almost 60s sound. `Sitting' starts with a skewed bluesy-piano intro then heads ... To put it in 1 sentence - The CD notes are as boring as the songs.

Why is it "Cool" to dismiss Neil Diamonds work before his work with Rick Rubin?...Any one of his non Rubin produced albums are far better than this. YES....any one! Try "Lovescape" to start.....15 songs, mostly cowritten by members of his long standing band. Who agrees? REVIEW BY MR C WILLIAMS, NOT MRS J

The more you get into this album the more you realise that it has been exquisitely put together with songs about love and hope.

My only reservation about Baxter is his rather high pitched falsetto voice but there is no denying the poetical feel to the lyrics. This is rock music for the intelligent set. I have an interest in Baxter's work as he comes from Bungay in Suffolk - a town I covered as a young newspaper reporter back in the 1970s.

There is a jazz feel to many of the songs and there will be obvious comparisons with the voice of Jeff Buckley. Baxter doesn't quite have the tonal range of his American counterpart but he always writes literate songs within his vocal range. I have seen him live and he produces a much rockier sound.

First saw Seth Lakeman on Channel Five's "My Music". Thought he sounded great and not too folky. I bought Freedom Fields CD and thought it was excellent. Found out that he was gigging in Peterborough where I live so went with the wife to see him live. Thought he was excellent. The wife rated him 6 out of 10. Her tastes are West Life and Wet Wet Wet. I usually listen to bands like Coldplay, U2, The Doors, The Killers, The Strokes, Radio Head, REM, Take That etc but I like a song to tell a good story which Seth pulls off in his song writing. The only downside (LIVE)is his guitar playing brother in the band who doesn't look the part. He looked too wooden and is riding on his brother's success. I would recommend you buy this CD and go see Seth live. The crowd is so diverse ... Read More:

So much for second album syndorme.
It races out of the blocks, with the pounding Girls And Boys, and impressively keeps the pace up for the best part of the album. Single worthy Shake! Shake! is a fantastic track.
And songs like Move To Newyln and All Or Nothing allow you to temporarily catch your breath before the stomping Turnaround.
The album is littered with huge festival sized tunes, and wonderful acoustic numbers.

The Subways have managed to improve every aspect of their debut album. The lyrics are stronger, the music is tighter and it proves almost impossibe to pick out a favourite track.
