The tracks that stand out as 'chilled' music are great!
Not enough of them. Many fillers, some i hadn't heard before, and for good reason, they either were not 'chilled' music or/and not easy to listen to at all. This really should be 2 discs, and be done with the unknown and unchilled.

Costello Music, when the Fratellis debuted on the mainstream in 2006 was an album that from the very first song, you fell in love with the album and the band. Their music was instantly memorable and something that you could get up and dance to without giving much thought to what you were listening to. The art of the Fratellis is that they can make music with excellent lyrics for those who pay attention to that aspect of music, and it's catchy making them the prime choice for parties. Costello Music made an impact and gave the indie bands some credibility amongst the mainstream audiences. Usually when a new band or artist has such a successful debut they generally fail to live up to that hype with their second album.

Putting a label on the debut album by MGMT is a toughie. They're sort of a synth-psychedelic-space-indie-noisepop band.

And they break an awful lot of rules in their debut album "Oracular Spectacular," a vibrant, colorful little album that sounds like a cascade of summer flowers. They have a few wrinkles yet to iron out, but their music has a unique and striking sound, and they obviously know how to craft solid pop music with a foot-tapping beat, and a slightly eerie sound.

It opens with squeaks, bubbling noises, and finally with a slow-building electric riff smothered in twisted synth. "I'm feelin' rough, I'm feelin' raw, I'm in the prime of my life/Let's make some music make some money find some models for wives... This is our ... Read More:

The title "We started nothing" is somewhat of a lie. It is undisbutable that the Ting Tings have a unique sound, that is immediately recognisable on the radio and stands out difiantly against the crowd. The CD, therefore, is unsurprisingly not mainstream. The tracks are definitely a long way from the usual indie rock that reverberates through the stereo these days all too frequently. The Ting Tings do a good job at continuing there distinct style throughout the album which is good, although repeated listening is not recommended, and not for the totally overquoted "that's not my name!" (that I for some reason seem to have been able to fit into every sentence since hearing the album). The problem I have is that after hearing lots of times, the songs all seem to merge ... Read More:

I'm going to make this short and sweet as I don't want to waste too much time, but in the time between albums 2 and 3, it seems to me that Portishead have simply spent the years collecting every single annoying noise that they can find, and slapping it together in an effort to create "music".

Don't get me wrong, I've been a Portishead fan since the start, and regularly listen to self-titled, and PNYC, but THIS! I'm disappointed, sorely so.

I want to like Vampire Weekend. I really do. They deserve kudos for keeping their songs short, fun and catchy, while bringing Soweto-style rhythms to the masses for the first time since Graceland. Fun little melodies bounce along as if their only purpose is to make you happy, and singer Ezra Koenig yaps his vocals like a playful puppy, eager for a biscuit. So far, so endearing. But there is something of a feeling of look-at-me smart-arsedness about it all that threatens to undo their good work at times. Recent single Oxford Comma is an example - a song that seems to bemoan grammatical fascism and an obsession with correct spelling. I mean, eh? Someone is wearing their clever trousers. Catchy tune, though.

But while there are other disappointing moments - Cape ... Read More:

A superb album - an exciting new voice, on both the cover versions and the originals, and confident handling of several genres (I don't find the current 'blues singer' pigeon-holing very helpful, although she can handle this genre well). OK, she probably can develop a bit more edge and drive and surely will, but she's well on the way. Strongly recommended!

Not a regular visitor to this genre, but this CD seems to lurch around between eighties All About Eve-style, to American country, to a vaguely mariachi style track sung with a Scots accent. It's all nice enough, and with a price tag to please, but it's not my understanding of earthy folk music.

Not rubbish. How could any Emmy Lou Harris album ever be, but be returning to producer Brian Ahern, she has effectively gone back to the sound if her 1976 album "Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town", and that's one step too far back to the future. After the progressive nature of her last three albums, Emmylou has obviously decided she doesn't want her rock fans any more, and to say the same thing again, she's gone backwards.

Make no mistake though, this album is beautifully played and exquisitely sung (who would have expected anything else) but after a few listens, I can't remember any of the songs.

A huge disappointment, and if in any doubt buy "Quarter Moon", it's fabulous.

They say there's ne progress in this kind of music, and here's the proof

I totally agree with all the reviews already written here. Yes after playing the previous album to death on our holiday and thinking how can they match this........they bleedin well have!

It did take 2-3 proper listens, but now I'm hailing this the best album of the year so far (well until Kings of Leon bring their next CD out in Sept!!)

I keep trying to force myself away from it in the fear of overplaying it. And when I play other music, I can't wait to get The Zutons back in my ears again.

Every track is a winner. Even the weaker ones have some form of brilliance at some point in the track.

Very catchy, brilliant, I recommend it to all.
