Just seen Amy perform live at Glastonbury and boy is there something special about this woman. Huuuggggeeeee magnestisn and charisma with a touch of the Marilyn Monroe tragedy about her, but what a voice. I'm hooked ;-)

Yes, of course, most album reviews on Amazon are positive, and much of the rest are from people crying 'sell out'. Well, for what 42 years on the planet and a first ever Amazon review are worth, this is one of those very very rare albums that takes music to a new level, that even on first listening you know will live on, not necessarily defining an era, but being forever known and rediscovered. It's that good. With the possible exception of 'Caravan Girls', nothing on this album is weak or forced - it experiments, disturbs and delights whilst at all times demonstrating an utter mastery of the craft of beautiful song writing. If you loved the Kings first two albums, with their raw southern rock songs and spacey ballads then avoid this like the plague. The Kings have gone done a road that very few come back from, they've done a U2. What I mean is they have written an album for the sole purpose of playing the songs in large stadium venues and festivals. Just ask Coldplay or the Foo Fighters if this song writing technique works to gain credibility. I think the answer is NO. The problem is they have dropped everything that made them special and just become another sell-out rock band. The synths and Brian Eno esque guitar wailings are just awful and really dated, the songs have no direction and have lost their punch. But worst of all this album just drags on ... Read More:

I was really excited when I found out Dangermouse would be producing Beck's new album, as he is one of my favourite producers. I was even more pleased when I listened to it, and found that the two of them have split the work almost right down the middle. The album is full of unmistakably Beck melodies a la Sea Change, contrasted with Dangermouse's gritty beats. If you like both of these artists' previous efforts, you wont be disappointed here.

Having thoroughly enjoyed her more traditional previous album Rough Music, and following the recent Channel 5 documentary on Eliza, I had expected something in a similar vein. However, this is very different. It follows in the trail of her previous self-written album (the underrated Angels & Cigarettes) and infuses her folk leanings with an unexpected variety of instruments and styles. What comes through on every song is the strength of the song writing, the vividly drawn characters and the wonderful narratives. All delivered in Eliza's beautiful and expressive singing style. Obviously I havent got this one yet but just looking down the track listings it has the same great mix of all the latest songs that all of the Now collection have. Definately one to buy if you want a real good feel good cd or if ya havin a house party and everyone had different tastes! I look forward to gettin it and havin it blarin out in my car!!

A masterpiece of classic singing in the old style of the 30s with heart braking lyrics that comes together in surely the album of the year. Amy Winehouse is a tortured soul who falls madly in love, and then gets dumped. Not a happy story, but inspiration for most of her songs. That and drugs feature strongly. Her emotion is raw, her lyrics are powerful, and her songs are catchy. Buy this now and you will not be disappointed.

This is not the original album. Three of the best tracks have been removed (Into the Jungle, Ocean Blue and The Hours) and replaced with sloppy generic synth-pop dribble (Gogo, Public Image and Touch me touching you). Get your hands on the original. Its much better than this one.

Much like Her 2004 debut album, 'The 18th Day', Shine proves to be an outstanding contribution to the world of UK hip-hop. Featuring collaborations from Kanye West, Will.i.am, Cee-Lo & John Legend, the album had all the ingredients to be a major success. A very summer feeling on the record, and a 2008 must buy!!
