Much like Her 2004 debut album, 'The 18th Day', Shine proves to be an outstanding contribution to the world of UK hip-hop. Featuring collaborations from Kanye West, Will.i.am, Cee-Lo & John Legend, the album had all the ingredients to be a major success. A very summer feeling on the record, and a 2008 must buy!!

The songs on this CD are quirky energetic and upbeat. I don't know why so many people are saying they are "boybandy" or been done because I think they are very unique and the only thing I would have to say is most of the songs are singing about girls...but most songs do anyway. Overall a good CD

The kooks' second album was always going to be extremely difficult. The task in hand was to prove the critics wrong, maybe do something a bit different so as not to be labelled 1-trick ponies, and most importantly to keep the massive fan base which they had built on the back of their debut 'inside in/inside out'. Whether they have achieved any of these is debatable.

The album starts out in promising fashion with the two guitars being used in `see the sun' infusing together to make a catchy, instantly lovable pop-rock track which forces you to come back for another listen. This trend continues with the catchy lead single `Always where I need to be' which has you singing "do-do-do, do-do-do-do-do, do-do' in the irritatingly catchy chorus. ... Read More:

Lots of good things here : another Steve Perry clone on vocals, but thats no bad thing (he's excellent), more great songs from the Schon/Cain writing team with inputs from others, great production, and a really good bonus disc of old classics revamped for 2008. Its a couple of hours of really good listening, and even if you are a part-time Journey admirer, you will not be disappointed with your investment. Buy and smile.

The voice is the first thing you notice. The early poetic renditions on such classics as "Suzanne", "Sisters of Mercy" and "Famous Blue Raincoat" are presented in a voice that is deadpan but not as gruff as in later years. This was at a period when he was a well kept secret and with a style and presentation that not everyone took to. Move onto disc 2 and you notice how the voice deepens and the songs become bigger. One thing that Cohen has never failed to deliver is quality songs with curious stories to tell. He has an almost hymn-like or gospel touch on a lot of his work, usually enhanced by superb backing singers and wondrous musicians and arrangements.

I move between both of his periods with equal ease, but I find the latter stuff more appealing ... Read More:

A masterpiece of classic singing in the old style of the 30s with heart braking lyrics that comes together in surely the album of the year.

Amy Winehouse is a tortured soul who falls madly in love, and then gets dumped. Not a happy story, but inspiration for most of her songs. That and drugs feature strongly.

Her emotion is raw, her lyrics are powerful, and her songs are catchy.

Buy this now and you will not be disappointed.

I first heard of Bob Marley when watching I Am Legend at the cinema, and liked what I heard so I looked him up on Amazon and liked the preview tracks, and all the 16 (at the time) 5 star ratings said it all! So I bought it and when I first played it I didn@t like it, can you believe that, but when I played it a second time and each time (I can't stop playing it now!) I get bowled over - if you are a new comer like me - give it a chance - it's brilliant! Well worth the money!

Elusive. Slippery. Beguilingly and Bewitchingly Beautiful.

The ten songs which comprise Ms Wasser's new album will not
give themselves up easily to listeners looking for a quick
melting-moment fix.

There has been remarkable development since 2006's 'Real Life'
(an absolute stunner too if you haven't heard it yet !)

This is uncompromising writing and performance from a woman
not afraid to move against the mainstream.

The fluid, almost jazzy structure, of these compositions
reeks somehow of a stifling New York City Night.
Compressed and achingly searching for intangible resolutions.

'Honor Wishes' is a brave and austere opening track.
Voice. Piano. Bass. Drums.

Isn't this facility for reviewing albums? People seem to be getting caught up in the politics and forgetting the point. This album contains, in my opinion, some of the best songs of the last couple of decades. I don't agree that it's disjointed or that it's essential to listen to individual Radiohead albums in their entirety. These people must be so disappointed when they go to see the band play live and have to sit through a set full of songs taken from different albums.

Enough has been said about this compilation not being representative of what the band are about, but for an objective test I compared the track listing with what they performed live when I saw them at Victoria Park earlier this week. They played just five songs from the first disc and another four from the second out of a total of twenty five performed. Were it not for the second disc that would be a terrible hit rate for a supposed "Best Of" album; even with it that's barely over a third of their live set covered. There are no two ways about it; this is a fundamentally backward-looking compilation.

That said, the songs are still great and stand on their own merits even outside their original album contexts. If you want a Radiohead sampler, this is about as good as it ... Read More:
