What can I say about an album I still cherish? Ultravox were faced with a real mountain to climb after Vienna went to number two in the UK in February 1981. The pressure was on to come up with something equally memorable and innovative and yet time was short: both Billy Currie and Midge Ure were still involved with Visage so Rage In Eden came together slowly - over three months - at the late Conny Plank's rural studio in Germany. The recording wasn't without its setbacks, the least of all being drummer Warren Cann breaking his arm in a car crash! This was once my favorite band, they had good music, and very good songs. This album comes out, with the hope it is going to be something reminiscent of the good old Westlife, but NO. This is not the kind of music you would hope for from WL: repetitive at some points, nothing original, you hear it and you get the feeling of 'been there, done that', totally forgettable. Listened to it twice, then that's it. Have the boys lost their inspiration??? Do not know, but if things that are original, new, and different start come up, then that might not be in their favor on the long run. Backstreet Boys, had a much stronger return with their latest album, now that was original and ten times better than this album.

Classic and timeless stuff, a collection of all the good old songs. The technical quality is higher than you would expect in view of the vintage of some of these recordings, so the transfer has ben really well done. For 6 quid, you can't go wrong.

Considering,I hadnt indulged in listening or buying anything after the floyd depart or early David.I just fell in love with this album.I just had to have.Once you buy you'll never get sick of it.The songs are all so emotionally put together,simply gorgeous for me.

I bought POB on the strength of the reviews on here having never heard it (or heard of it) before and because I'm a big Beach Boys/Brian Wilson fan. After several plays it still leaves me with mixed feelings. I admire much of the musical diversity of the tracks but often find the words hard to decipher (partly due to DW's diction and partly to the vocals often being set back in the mix) What the songs do have however is a soul-baring openess and honesty to them, which I think music should be about. POB is a worthwhile addition to an Beach Boy's collectors library but (at this stage) I cannot personally call it a 'classic' album. Listening on the ipod brings out more of the musics subtlety. This was the first album I ever bought and thirty years later I still think it is excelent. It includes two classic Abba number one singles (Take a Chance On Me and Name of The Game), but apart from those every track is pure Abba gold. 'Eagle' sees Abba in full grown up mood and the instrumentation is just fabulous. 'One Man One Woman' gives Frida a chance to shine in full heartbreak mode. 'Move On' was always one of my favourites and has a fabulous melody, if you can ignore the slightly cheesy spoken intro by Bjorn. 'Hole In Your Sole' has tremendous energy and was performed live by Abba in 1977 as part of 'The Girl With Golden Hair' mini musical. Like a lot of people I was very hesitant as to whether 9 would live up to its predecessor and had to give it a few listens before I could pass judgement. Although in some aspects it is similar to O- "Dogs" possesses an innocence that would fit nicely with Damien's first album- to me it seems a lot more mature and some of the perfect, beautiful lyrics have been replaced with some more realistic and matter-of-fact ones which are actually just as powerful. For example the chorus of Rootless Tree (which involves a lot of swearing) to me is incredibly realistic and almost like a converstaion- "so * you and all we've been through, I said leave it, it's nothing to you, and if you hate me then hate me so good that you can let me out of this hell when you're around". I love this album, but for me even though I think it contains some of their finest work todate, I can't help but prefer Plans which to me was as near perfect as an album can get! You can tell that the band are moving in a new, exciting direction with this album, and whilst in the main it works, the intro on I will possess your heart for me is just far too long and repetitive. However, there are some to soon become classics such as Grapevine Fires and Your New Twin Sized Bed. I think the lyrics are achingly beautiful, and can be related to by anyone who's experienced love and loss. I would highly recommend this album, but I would also say if you have not heard their Plans album, treat yourself to that too.

this CD is really just another example of the music companies trying to fleece us the poor consumer. whilst the music of Billy Joel is superb in any format this best of is just a rehash of his Essential collection. unless you have a burning desire to own Scenes from an Italian Resteraunt and Only the Good Die young then i would seriously recommend 'The Essential Billy Joel' 36 tracks in all and 16 of them which you get on this album.
