This was certainly one of the best albums of the 90's. This edition features a superb live performance from Montreaux show of 1991. Worth getting it just for this DVD alone. Each musician takes turns to put on fantastic show.

I thought of Simply Red as just an average soul/funk band, but this blew me away when I first heard it back in 1992 and still gets a spin every few weeks now in 2006. Timeless pop music with unforgettable melodies and lyrics.

Man, I long for singers to sing with this passion now-a-days, including Simply Red. The majority of this album was written when sad old Red (aka Mick Hucknall) was living in a box room council flat and boy was he firey back then. The resentment, love and sorrow he had for life is conveyed in every note sung on this album to a degree he never really was able to reproduce. Maybe it was the money. Ironic, since it was Moneys Too Tight To Mention that caterpaulted them to their peak. I love this album for not only its mood, not only his firey raw voice but also for the superb melody and music. The throbbing of the double bass, the jazzy piano solos, brass crescendos all brought together in the superb reverb drenched recording and engineering. Read More:

The journalist Craig Seymour (in his bio on Luther) didn't rate this album, so I bought it with some trepidation. Well, I don't think Craig coud have been more wrong. Some of Luther's vocals on these tracks are amongst his BEST ever performances. As ever, he sounds incredible, but with a Gospel intensity on the ballads; at times he's truly singing the chandelier right off the ceiling !! It must have been electrifying in the studio. And his jazz-funk take on My Favourite Things is worth the price of admission alone... All the usual crew are there (Cissy, Cindy, Brenda, Lisa, Kevin, Marcus, Nat et al). For the first few years of the 21st century, Destiny's Child ruled the roost in terms of pop music. Their touch was golden, and pretty much everything they released was extremely successful in the UK or the USA, or both. Listening to this collection, it's not difficult to know why. Their competence in carrying off great pop hooks is considerable, and their vocals are way better than those of people in so-called 'credible' Indie bands. Vocals should actually count for something, and by God can Beyonce Knowles carry a note. Great pop music is all over this album, from the memorable 'Bills, Bills, Bills', to the utterly anthemic 'Independent Woman' and the similarly anthemic 'Survivor'. I have a couple of Simply Red's CD's and so it's kind of easy to buy this "best of". It is one of my all-time favourites, and as a collection it can provide listening music, dance music, and quality background music all on the same disc. Let me just name the tracks I really like: "Holding Back The Years", great dancing music with "Money's Too Tight to Mention", "A New Flame", "You've Got It", "If You Don't Know Me By Now", "Stars", and "For Your Babies". Come on - 7 top tracks out of 15 - this just cries out to be one of my top-10 CD's.

On this album Luther was on top form. Vocally its a strong performance with his voice as smooth as silk. Yet for me what stands out most is his excellent production skills. He really makes the songs jump out of the stereo. The songs are mainly up-tempo and have rich bass lines that will really get you tapping your feet. This album boosts some of Luther's greatest songs, such as the title track and "See Me". In fact its a bit of a mini greatest hits collection with 7 out of the 9 tracks being released as singles (5 hit the top 40). Overall well worth a look whether your new to Luther or looking to build up your collection.
