OK! 6 years after it was released, i just wonder about them people who blasted this cd still feel the same about their original reviews. The problem with this cd was it entered into the "wrong single choice syndrome". OK Through The Rain, would appeal to fans world over, but it wasnt a patch on Hero etc, and i think the story amongst that track is that fans only would understand the message portrayed within that track!!!!!. Boy was a classic that should have got more recognition than it did, I Know What You Want (later added to the cd with Buster Rhymes) is the track that saved this cd from failing miserably here in the UK,. Personnaly for me if the singles from this cd were You Got Me, I Only Wanted, You Had Your Chance, Irresistable and Bringin' ... Read More:

Simply Red started out as one of the most promising soul bands Britain had ever given birth to with 'Holding Back The Years' back in the mid eighties. Most critics would have agreed that only a band like Simply Red could even contemplate doing justice to an old classic like 'Every Time We Say Goodbye'. In recent years they have joined the dance music bandwagon and lost the pop melodies and soul that characterised their early music. 'It's Only Love' gives us an opportunity to listen to their remarkable decline for the first time on one album. From touching melodies like 'Holding Back The Years' (a song made even more beautiful on discovering it was written about the years Hucknall did not see his mother) and the respectful cover of 'Every Time We Say Goodbye' ... Possibly THE soul album of the 80's. Serious songs dealing with insecurity, heartbreak and at times the more sensual side of relationships this was Vandross' creative peak before his A+R dept. couldn't decide how to market him and his voice became frequently wasted on poorer, less adult music. Although often written off as some sickly 'lurvve' man this album highlighted the insecurity and doubt which is the core to many of the man's best songs. The string arrangements on numerous songs, particularly 'Other Side of the World' are innovative and highlight how musically redundant most of the current 'bump and grind' music is. Although never hitting the heights of the 70's this album proves that 80's soul was not the drum machine wasteland it sometimes seems. Possibly ... Read More:

I felt driven to write a review of this superb album here after reading the bizarrely ambiguously two-starred one before me. I miss Luther in the same way as I miss Marvin, both of whom, in my opinion, came from some higher plain to visit us and leave something that would make our lives better.
The effortless way in which Luther Vandross delivers a song can leave you breathless just witness the opening track Love the One You're With and Killing Me Softly ( with his song).
this is not just one artist's interpretation of other people's songs these are chosen and obviously the songs all mean something very special to Luther. This album could very well become a desert island disc.

I bought this album not really expecting to much from it,alright, there was the chart material that most people know and enjoy, but I was pleasently surprised to discover that this compilation is of a very high standard and consistently so.Luther genuinely had a fantastic voice, with a superb soulful delivery to equal the best in this genre. Some very catchy numbers with fantastic eighties sounds. If you like eighties R'n'b pop, this album or an album by this artist is an absolute must.I feel songs such as 'Never to much' deserve to be recognised as genuine classics in the pop genre.A very enjoyable album.

I'm lost for words truly. This is a definitive mood expression for Simply Red. That voice, wow, that voice and emotion, sounds of that band....can just reach out and touch your heart. You will identify with the words...love both takes on "air". Wonderful, wonderful! Lovin' it in the USA!
