I am no stranger to reviewing material by John Mayer and I know that sometimes I can come over as evangelical in my praise, but how else can you describe such an immense talent?
The SRV analogies are bound to resonate through other reviews, and I'm sure the talented Mr M would not baulk at the comparison. However, when a 'white man plays the blues', these analogies are all too easy to use and this takes away from the originality of John Mayer's skills as a songwriter. 'Stop This Train' is the most powerful song with the most simple delivery that I have heard, and is a song which, in its live format, I often find I'm too sensitive to listen to. I am fortunate to have seen him live on two occasions, but have only seen him perform this song ... Read More:

This could have been a lot better, the remastering is not that good and I must agree it is a bit of a one track album.

I already own this classic album in 3 forms, LP CD & remastered CD.
Having purchased this on the strength of the live gig, I'm afraid it's painful listening. The band sound great but the vocals are out of tune & I've found it unlistenable. Why would the band (Mac?) authorise this, there must be better gigs to release?
Stick to the remastered Ocean Rain CD & save your hard earned....

The UK version of Magical Mystery Tour was originally just a 6 song EP to tie in with the band's television movie aired on Boxing Day 1967. Wanting to release a full album to cash in on the Christmas market, their American label added four recent non-album singles and a B-side onto the end. It is this 11 track version which has since become standard.

Released mere months after Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, arguably the most famous album of all time, MMT was destined to be comparatively forgotten. Apart from anything else, it just isn't as good...

That said, it contains four of the Beatles' most famous (and best) songs: I Am the Walrus, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, and All You Need Is Love. These four are uniformly ... Read More:

This collection is well put together and well packaged and it does all the right things. The only thing it does wrong is try to please all the people all the time.
Let's face it Genesis have been at least three different bands. It argueable that there have been more incarnations but let's agree on three for the sake of simplicity. The early work with Gabriel and Hackett that is an was of its time Trespass, Foxtrot et al up to Lamb Lies down. The early Collins singing days of Rutherford and Banks 'Then there were three' Wind & Wuthering when I think they did some excellent work. And then the Pop Band.
Perhaps I am simplyfying too much. The odd gem appears out of context of course, 'Duke' or parts of same I can cite as an obvious example. But, this is my theory, ... Read More:

Elvis' only album of the '50s with no fast tempo rock and roll, and for good reason: it was his first Christmas, so the decibel level had to be lower. He does wail on the incredible blues-rock opener, "Santa Claus Is Back In Town". It's Elvis doin' his thing, driving home the double-entendres. It's been written that this album was banned, and the banners didn't have to go too far into the album to find something...too strong.
"Blue Christmas" is medium-tempo blues-rock, a gem of a tune, featuring a typically great vocal and some genuine Presley low-down blues licks. If there was room back in the day, this could gone into the Top 20.
"Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me" is a nicely syncopated rocker, a soft vocal over a hard beat. It works. The vocal approach is reminiscent of ... Read More:

Def Leppard outsold many band of the 1980s, and this compliation of their best hits proves why. Hits from the early years of recording, like "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages" are within the compilation, and are complimented with the hits from their biggest selling album, "Hysteria", like "Animal", and "Rocket". Included also are some songs from their albums in the mid 1990s, like "When Love And Hate Collide", which scored highly in the UK charts. Of course, their biggest hit, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is the first track, so that will definately get any listener going.

The band itself produces absolutely brilliant music, and this album clarifies the imapct Def Leppard had on the music world. I would also call this a masterpiece.

Absolutely have to agree with Mark Astons review here over the missing-middle-eight-repetitiveness of this album. At first listen it sounds like a glorious sugar coated update of the Screams first album, "Sonic Flower Groove", with "Beautiful Future" and the "Glory of Love "(in both forms) particularly brilliant in a second-summer-of-pop type way. "Uptown" is good in the same way that "Trainspotting" and "Screamadelica" (the track not the album) were, and cover "Over & Over" is another Broken Bobby (TM) version of "Damaged". But it's true, all these songs sound unfinished and either repeat themselves adnausium in some sick loop after about 20 seconds, or else take the cursed fade out route at the end. Criminal stuff because this could have been once of The Screams best albums. As it is it ... Read More:
