I came across Sarah after hearing the stunning 'Full of Grace' on Buffy. That song is beautiful, and I loved it so much I tracked down the rest of her work to find something as good. Sadly, none of her songs quite compare. However, this album is, quite simply, a work of art. I had heard great things about FTE and Surfacing, and whilst they are both great, they are genius in some places and simply ok in others. Afterglow, however, was amazing. It is her most consistent work- every track on here is pure gold and incredibly distinctive, something Sarah's earlier work lacks as most of the tracks seemed to bumble along, blending together. Not so on the gorgeously mature Afterglow. It took me only two or three listens to put this up there in my top ... Read More:

When I saw Billy Bragg on tour recently he described himself as a 'Marmite artist', ie, you either love him or hate him. I don't know that is necessarily true. My husband somewhat reluctantly bought this for me for Christmas a few years ago after I'd requested it on the strength of the handful of Bragg songs that I knew from my teens (Sexuality, New England, Waiting for the Great Leap Forward).
Neither myself or my hubby really knew enough about BB from those few songs to understand what an amazing artist he really is. I reckon that there are a few people out there who are in that same position and this review, like the album, is for you. This is a great place to start on your Bragg conversion because it will give you a taste of the diversity ... Read More:

To be honest, I did not think much of "Who Killed..." A couple of catchy pop tunes, for sure, but it was "bubble gum" music for the most part. This album remains true to the band's sense of having fun with their music, but it has a much more confident sound and the production is much improved. Touring the States with The Killers also seems to have rubbed off on how the band now sounds. Moreover, to their credit, the record again romps home in just over 40 minutes.

The themes are varied and frequently concern the more mundane aspects of life - the stress of taking public transport to work ("Tired of Hanging Around"), why good nights out always end in miserable hangovers the next day ("It's the Little Things We Do"), or getting over a relationship ... I bought this album as I knew bits of the Foos but hadn't really listened to them before. The music is brilliant in parts but vocals a bit too "shouty" for my taste personally.

This album was a revelation when I first heard it a couple of years after Cobain's death. For the most part I hadn't connected with Nirvana's grungier sound. The Unplugged format provides a sparse and paired back sound, releasing the raw power and passion of Cobain's voice. Favorite's are Something In the Way, Dumb, On a Plain and most especially the cover of the Meat Puppets Plateau. As others have mentioned the closing cover of Leadbelly's Where Did You Sleep Last Night is remarkable in its intensity.

Unlike many other live albums the post production has left all the chat and banter between Cobain and the band in the mix; this allows the listener to feel part of a very special concert. In conclusion you don't have to be a big fan of Nirvana's louder, ... Read More:

I was 18 years old when this album was first released. I bought it, listened to the singles, had a bash at the rest and then sort of forgot about it. It was only when I updated my collection of vinyl to CD's that I re-discovered this brilliant album, about 15 years ago. It is now never far from my stereo.
Speaking in an old fashioned way, the "a-side" (as it was on vinyl) is the one most people will listen to, it has the singles, from the galloping pounding "Running Up That Hill", through the sheer folky string quartet driven brilliance of "Cloudbusting" to the nicely upbeat "The Big Sky". But please try the old "b-side" - The Ninth Wave. A concept album within an album telling the story of a drowning woman, looking back through her life as she struggles in the ... Read More:

Don't get me wrong, these are great songs, but this time around they've been ruined by dreadful remastering. We didn't need another Smiths compilation anyway....of the existing ones, Louder Than Than Bombs has the most enduring track selection.

I consider myself a music fan, and I have wide and varied tastes. One look through P.Jones reviews will bear out that unless you like his/her particular brand of music you are not considered a music fan. Total nonsense. Music, like beauty, is in the "ear" of the beholder: Shame on you for being so closed-minded.

I have several Shania Twain albums and a couple of DVDs and I'm not ashamed to say I've been to see her twice, and ALL of my encounters with her and her music have been uplifting. If you like up-beat, fun music - some with a deeper story to tell - you will enjoy this album. If you like Shania's silky, effortless voice, you will enjoy this album. And thats a promise.

Don't think, just buy.
Had this for ages listened to it thousands of times.
Also it's priceless just play the first track LOUD to any unsuspecting victim.
