I remember the first time I heard this album on good old vinyl. Technology has moved on and when I listen to it now on this remastered edition I think you hear it how you were supposed to back in 1980. Turn the volume up on western promise and be prepared to be blown away. Every track is outstanding and the extra tracks are well hearing.

One might be tempted to call "Warm Leatherette" Grace Jones' debut album. She recorded three disco albums with Tom Moulton back in the late '70s, but none of them managed to give her a commercial breakthrough. This is by all means a truly phenomenal album by Grace. It's a mixture of genres. From rock to soul, and from new wave to country. And everything in between. It is mostly an album of covers, but Grace completely blows the originals out of the water. Her cover of the Normal's "Warm Leatherette" is stunning, and her cover of the Pretenders' "Private Life" makes the original seem completely irrelevant. But that is her ability. OH DEAR, OH DEAR, HAVING JUST BOUGHT THIS. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THE TRACKS WERE RE-MASTERED FROM THE ORIGINALS (WITH THE HELP OF MORRISSEY ? ?) THEN WHO WAS THE PILLOCK THAT CHOPPED THE FULL FADE OFF "THAT JOKE ISN'T FUNNY ANYMORE" BUT LEFT THE FULL TIMING ON THE SLEEVE???? ANOTHER BRILLIANT OPPORTUNITY WASTED.... MORRISSEY AND WARNER BROTHERS.........HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME!!!

Like many of the reviewers I spent part of my childhood with my mum and step dad playing Crowded House every other hour. At the time I was far to obsessed with keeping my attempted image to want anything to do with what my mum liked. Now over ten years on I noticed this CD for cheap on Amazon and recalled some of the songs in my head which was just enough to tempt me into a purchase. I am glad I did. I can honestly say that of all my music as an overall album this greatest hits has to be one of the best CD's I own. This is one of the few CD's where I can put it on and have the certainty that every song I hear will excel. The Music return after a hefty absence with an album reminding us all what a talent they are. Despite numerous bands fusing dance and rock, they were ahead of the curve and still do it better than most. The album itself makes for great listening. There are moments such as "Fire" that could sit on either of Strength in Numbers predecessors, but the formula has been tweaked to give a fresh perspective on the bands sound. There are moments of respite in the likes of "The Spike" and "Drugs" which show a new lower range for singer Rob Harvey, and it helps give an sinister edge to proceedings. Rods gravely voice suits these classic tracks perfectly. My wife and I listen to this CD over and over. If you like Rod, or like the old crooners songs then I'm sure you'll like this cd.

this was a big favourite of mine, growing up in the 80's and early 90's. this album is by far the best reggae collection of ub40's. i also bought the ub40 dvd which has a few others which do not feature on the collection. if you want relaxing, soul trippin music this summer, then i suggest this album. totally superb. this is a must for anyone who not only likes ub40 but enjoyed the 80's and its music.

this is a classic i cant believe it wasant no 1 in the charts like a night at the opera obviously bohemian rhapsody got them recognised and killer queen was the breakthrough well buy this its fab!!

There is much more of a disco feel about Voulez Vous but that doesn't detract from an album where at last there is no filler material. Marriage break-ups and relationship problems seem to have worked in the group's favour as the songs become more biting and meaningful. Just listen to "Angel Eyes" and "If It Wasn't For the Nights" to see what I mean. It's almost as if the quartet are using confessional material to expound their thoughts and sorrows in a strangely therapeutic style reminiscent of some of Fleetwood Mac's material. It gives the album an almost sad quality. There is some top class pop material here such as "As Good As New," "Chiquitita" and "I Have A Dream." Voulez Vous proved that Abba were by now a class act.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my feelings not only about this album but also about the Human League who are one of my favourite bands and an inspiration, not only for their music but their togetherness as a band. Firstly, the Greatest Hits album. The only track I'm not too keen on is the remix of 'Don't You Want Me' at the end, which I find a bit tacky (couldn't Virgin have put 'Heart Like A Wheel' on instead?). The other tracks on the album are of at least a good standard, with my favourites being 'Love Is All That Matters', 'Together In Electric Dreams', 'Human', 'Mirror Man' and 'Tell Me When' which was the song that introduced me to the band.
