Can anybody think of many double albums on which every track is even 'good' let alone a master work? They are very few and far between as the majority of them just go on for far to long with too much 'filler'. And so we come to SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE by MR. Stevland Morris.
After the masterpiece which was INNERVISIONS in 1973, Stevie Wonder released this magnum-opus in 1976. Is it as good as INNERVISIONS? The answer is a resounding YES, YES, YES!
Up-lifting and beautiful, happy yet melancholy, it doesn't get any better than this.
Go and buy it.

I am not one to use the word 'MASTERPIECE' freely. This is because these days, i feel most people overuse the word 'masterpiece' and i find this to be rather irritating. You know what i mean? Too many albums, films, etc are refered to as masterpieces when they are just ok or good. This album, however is NOT ok or good. It IS a masterpiece.
Firstly, let me say, i am a rock fan. I was brought up on Heavy metal and punk. I'd lived in complete ignorence of Stevie Wonder until a friend recommended this album to me. At first, as you can probably guess, i was hesitant. Its not rock, i thought, why would i like it? Eventually i yielded and got a copy, expecting to give away after i'd heard it once. How wrong i was. This album is a genuine work of genius. ... Read More:

What an embarrassment. I live in the same town as where the band are from and I'm ashamed, a real load of crap absolutely terrible.

I bought this album because I really like the track 'Mr Brightside' which is excellent and easily the best thing on the album. Some of the others are ok but I couldn't listen to this from start to finish as it would annoy me intensely. The reason I'm not that fond of it is because I often struggle to see a lot in mainstream pop music generally - it all seems to have either been done before or just doesn't mean anything to me I'm afraid! I appreciate that the band have been immensely successful and I would imagine that if you saw them live it would be a great performance. Not really my kind of thing on a CD though.

I know that this band has influences from Coldplay and Keane, but they are much better than those bands in my opinion. I thought Keane's singles from the last album were great, especially Crystal ball, so I think this is more like the new Keane than the old Keane. Although I think OneRepublic is their own individual band and maybe they shouldn't be compared.
When I first heard this band's song re-mixed by Timbaland, I wasn't expecting the band to do any solo songs because I thought it was sort of organised by Timblalnd, but it turns out that Timbaland re-mixed OneRepublic's version of Apologize and made it sound better. There was just something about that song that attracted me to the band. When Stop and stare was first released, it took me a while to realise ... Read More:

For all its world-conquering success, ABBA Gold didn't really "rehabilitate" ABBA. The casual track sequencing and the choice of only the biggest hits means that a lot of good stuff was missed. The kitsch that dogged the early part of ABBA's career seems to be reinforced.

With The Definitive Collection, however, you get (a) all of the tracks that appear on Gold, (b) plus the additional gems that couldn't be included on Gold, and (c) very elegant packaging.

Another great plus with this set is that the tracks are sequenced chronologically. This makes it easier to see how the group progressed from their somewhat "innocent" early days to their remarkably affecting early 80s output. The big hits are well known and have been discussed ad infinitum. ... Read More:

Originally released in 1968 The Village Green Preservation Society is now seen as The Kinks finest individual release. In retrospect it's easy to see why it sold so poorly as its cosy nostalgic songs were well out of place in a time when rock was just beginning to get heavy. It's only with the passing of time than one can admire the albums brilliance.

The album is all Ray Davies originals and the themes of the songs are sepia toned to a time which probably never existed, but should have. What really makes the album work is the punchy production, which is at once rhythmic and melodic, and prevents the atmosphere from being twee. The subject matter of the tracks tell stories of lost childhood friends ('Do You Remember Walter?'), old photographs ('Picture Book', ... Read More:

Ok for people that know the film Big Trouble in Little China would you agree that Goldfrapp are a lot like David Lo Pan. Let me explain - one part of them is interesting music and is quite orchestral and the other half is this rubbish glam disco. So basically two different sides.

So for the people that enjoyed Felt Mountain this album is very similar. Quite orchestral in the construction but they have took influence from their dabble in electronic. The result is quite spectacular.

So for a musical intellect it is definitely worth an inspection. For the less intellectual that crave electro pop then go elsewhere.

Arrival is in many people's opinion Abba's finest moment. Certainly an album containing 'Knowing Me-Knowing You', 'Money Money Money' and 'Dancing Queen' has to be a contender for Abba's greatest album.
Apart from these classic three singles, there are several other noteworthy tracks on this classic album. Had this album been released in the 80s there would have probably been even more classic hits lifted from this collection. A strong contender for fourth single would have been 'My Love My Life' beautifully sung by Agnetha. This album also contains one of Agnetha's favourite tracks 'That's Me'. Closing the album is the title track 'Arrival' which was later covered by Mike Oldfield and became a hit for him.
An album truly deserving of the title 'Classic'.
