What an excellent idea to create a northern soul "mecca" around the clubs which gave it birth!. All of these hallowed names now so familiar to those who loved the music and the scene and which are in no small way totally responsible for its success both then and again now.

Born in 1963 I was not considered old enough to go to the all dayers and all nighters of that time. Therefore back then I loved the music but only heard a tiny portion of it and never had the honour of entering the sacred halls themselves; Blackpool Mecca, The Torch, The Twisted Wheel and Wigan Casino. Thanks to Richard Sterling however I have enjoyed the revival and added extensively to my northern soul knowledge and collection. Now with these 4 CD's, this ... Read More:

For me, this is maybe his best album, although it's quite hard to quantify the guy's output as he has been so prolific over what must be a 45 year career, and his material has veered from r'n'b to jazz, and on to traditional, country and several points in between.

Although recorded in America, a lot of the tracks seem very influenced by Ireland, and I believe he moved back to live there around this time. As with many of his albums, the lyrics are open to interpretation. I've read various tomes dealing with this, and I've always ended up more confused than when I started. My advice would be to shut the books, let this album float over you, and the lyrics will mean whatever they mean - to you.

Just too mainstream, there are far more interesting things going on in the undergrowth - for a comparison I recommend Nick Worrall. His album is FREE to download as well.

If you are aware of Jamiroquai you will know them for their infectious grooves and funky acid jazz, and if you don't, then this is the best place for your first taste of what they have to offer. Spanning all their albums to date, this album has a greats selection of tracks. From the didgeridoo enhanced 'When You Gonna Learn' to the exuberance of 'Virtual Insanity', as soon as you put this CD on you will start to move, tap your feet and grin and you won't stop until the last track. This has such gems as 'Canned Heat' that never fails to get me up and dancing, to 'Little L' which has much the same effect! This also has more laid back tracks such as 'Seven Days in Sunny June' from the latest album, 'Dynamite' and extra tracks for this collection, my ... Read More:

This album was one of my first tastes of a new genre of music.

I cant recommend this enough, very deep insightful. The tunes kinda flow togther and they are masterfully crafted.

I personaly love to stick this on late at night after a hards days work, get some candles on, turn off the lights and maybe a crafty smoke chill and chat to friends or that special person.

The more you listen the more it grows on you. Its uniqueness is part of its charm and i couldnt imagine anyone not rating this as immense.

Enjoy listneing if you purchase it.

I was still quite young when the disco craze hit the world, certainly way too young to enjoy what was going on in nightclubs, not too young to enjoy the music though!
My favourites at the time were undoubtedly this band. I recall dancing to all the hits at school disco's and once at a very magical evening trip to a local ice rink disco, with the youth club. But as well as stirring memories of the the late 70's and early 80's revisiting these tracks creates thoughts of just how stylisticly variable, vocally accomplished and downright excellent this band was! They deserved a lot more credit way back when and they do know. I defy you not to want to dance like crazy to "use it up" and "back to my roots" and I absolutley defy you to listen carefully to "native New Yorker" and not feel deeply ... Read More:
