I love Elkie Brooks' music and this certainly captures some of her finer moments. But a 'Best Of' compilation can only cherry pick the tracks that have come from a long line of albums, which in themselves show the style of the singer at that time. So whilst these tracks are great to listen to, do yourself a favour and pick a couple of her other albums first - then come back to this one to get all the great tracks in one place, but having the background to really appreciate them.

This is one of my favourite CD's from the early nineties. There's a tenderness and maturity to the songs here which hasn't dated one bit. Everyone I know who loves this album has a different track as their favourite and the superb production bringing out all the emotion in Annie's singing. The songs are sung with a heartfelt honesty that's still refreshing to hear, with almost none of the "pop production" that could spoil some of the Eurithmics recordings. "Money can't Buy It" and "Little Bird" are audio dem-room classics too. At the prices here, I'd sincerely recommend you give this a try - it deserves to be in every CD collection.

I've listened to this drivel - the record and all the hyped-up reviews of Duffy - and finally I've had enough. It's rubbish. 'You got me beggin', you got me beggin', you got me beggin' ad nauseum. Even dance songs can have good lyrics, it has happened. And enough already of these affected warbling or bellowing, sinus-afflicted girls (Adele's another...) I'm not hearing anything great here. And as for the Dusty comparisons, just just insulting to Dusty's versatility and emotional/vocal dynamic range. For god's sake, Duffy is plain Duff.

I decided to take a walk in the past and buy this collection - it's superb. It's sing-a-long as every track is well known, well remembered. None of it has dated, none of it. The voices are superb, blending so perfectly on every track. My only complaint, it isn't long enough but then the CD player will keep repeating it until I stop it, so that isn't too much of a problem... It's sunshine music. It's memories and good listening, it's sing-a-long and listenable, it's every cliché in the book and then some. Buy it.

worth owning just for the 2x versions of "hear my train a comin..", let alone "born under a bad sign" or anything else on here.. the man was an alien, either that or the rest of us are such pathetic examples of human beings that no-one has been able to reach his heights since. and to think some people rate Bono. woah.. just buy it.

I bought this CD the year it came out and sill love it. I have copies in the car, on the pc's at home and at work and on my ipod! If you can, buy a copy of the original offering, its got a massive 60 tracks! Once the postman has been you'll have all you need to stage a great all nighter for all your soul mates......... so turn up the volume, get the talc on the floor and let your feet go free! and remember, whatever else you might do in life, please.....'Keep the Faith'!!

There's no doubting the quality of the material on this best of EWF. Fantasy,Let groove,Boogie wonderland,After the love has gone..all the big hits are here,yet this album is missing loads more classic EWF songs that could have made this a 5 star album..i only knocked a star off coz of the glaring ommisions on this. Oddly, Shining star which was one of their biggest hits is stangely absent and what about Serpentine fire,Loves holiday,Loves magic,Lady sun,A song in my heart,Take it to the sky,You,Getaway,Something special and so on!! I hope one day someone will release an antology which will do the band justice. If your new to EWF then this is a good introduction..as i said all the big hits bar one or two are here but if you like the bulk of this CD then i urge you to check ... Read More:

After seeing four of Al's albums for under 8 pounds i couldn't resist and wasn't dissapointed. Theres hours of smooth r 'n' b to listen to, classic's like 'lets stay together' and 'love and happiness'. Also less well known songs such as 'I'm a ram' and 'true love'. My favourite album has to be 'gets next to you' with its slightly more funky and upbeat rythmn. Its a great bargain which you can't miss out on if you like this kind of music.
