Amongst my collection of approx 15 Ravi Shankar cd's, 'a morning raga, an evening raga' ranks as one of the best. Originally released in 1968, (with the same lineup as his groundbreaking and breathtaking performance at the Monterey Pop Festival* from the previous year: Ravi (sitar) Ustad alla Rakha (Tabla) and Kamala Chakravarti (Tamboura)), these 2 lengthy ragas find Ravi and Alla Rakha at the absolute peak of their powers.

Like the best of Ravi's work, the ragas are extremely moving and perfectly executed. Notably, the 2nd piece, 'raga mishra piloo' is absolutely beautiful and sublime in parts....it contains fantastic interplay between the sitar and tabla, the sounds produced convey every emotion....the musicianship is pure genius..

This album is so wonderful, I can't understand why she is not promoted on a wider basis!! Her style of reggae appeals to me, from lovers rock (smooth, slow jam reggae) to acoustic to gospel - I'm not into dancehall reggae, so Etana appeals to my taste. Her lyrics have true meaning and substance, unlike others I care not to mention. So what are you waiting for? Go get the album!!!!

Wow! This album is a must for the collection, great clever lyrics,punk/reggae/dub mix and some borrowed tunes do make for a good combo. These guys had a passion for music, they were'nt in it for the cash. Ten years after buying it and many copys stolen later I still listen to it alot.
The whole album rocks but my favourites are 'smoke two joints', 'bad fish', 'D.J.s' and the Bad Religion cover of 'were only guna die', but really I love them all.

By the time "Tighten Up" was released in early 1969 (and only operating since July of 1968), Trojan Records of the UK had released a staggering 108 singles and 25 albums to a voracious cosmopolitan British public. But Trojan knew that they needed a way to expand the nation's knowledge of their excellent catalogue, so they hastily put-together this 12-track ragbag of 7" singles as a compilation, priced it cheap (14 schillings and 6 old pence to you pal!), put a lovely fetching cover on it and plopped it into the racks of every Woolworths store across the land.

Named after the opening song on Side 1 by The Untouchables, by their own admission, Trojan hadn't expected much of "Tighten Up". Happily for them and us, they were wrong! It sold ... Read More:

All great artists generally leave enough material for a posthumous album of some sorts, generally a pork scratching type affair which rarely adds anything to the existing cannon. I think the opposite is true here and that this is greatest of the three albums that The Mescaleros recorded and possibly better than anything Joe recorded with The Clash. I think that taking Joe out of mixing/mastering stages has left his band to complete the album without Joe vetoing anything that he might think commercial and as a consequence I think this is the most immediate album in Joe's cannon.

Festival anthem `Coma Girl' is the strongest opening song any album could hope for and the pace doesn't settle down through the pseudo religious `Get Down Moses', ... Read More:

Having cut numerous massive selling 12" singles with Sly and Robbie ("Leaving To Zion", "General Penitentiary", "Shine Eye Gal") for a variety of labels, Black Uhuru were snapped up by Island and given a contract that allowed them enough studio time to make albums, and sent to work with their favourite ryhthm section.

The result was an album that was far ahead of most reggae of its time, and pointed the way towards the emerging digital dancehall sounds, without resorting to the cheap sexism of the "slackness" that so disfigured that music's early years. Working at Channel One with a few former Revolutionaries (Radcliffe Bryan, Ranchie McLean and Ansel Collins) on hand to beef up the sound, with ernest Hoo Kim at the controls, and with tunes ... I gotta say i think its taken me at least 3 years to finally get into this album but now i have you start to realise what its actually all about and to Rancid i give my respect.

This album is for the people they have grown up with through life and a tribute to alotta people. The opening track as you all know goes out to the living legend joe strummer (R.I.P). As for the others you gotta listen to the words to be able to realise the true greatness of this album Red Hot Moon, Tropical London, Fall Back Down, Otherside another great track dedicated to Lars brother Robert. To me this is an all inspiring album because you know theres alotta feeling gone in to it all great backing vocals and some awesome guitar riffs.

In my opinion this ... Read More:

Wednesday 25th 2006, 7:00 PM. This was when I saw Reel Big Fish at Aylesbury Civic Centre. It was the first gig I ever saw and will probably always be my most memorable. they were perfect. the energy they gave off and the quality of their performance. They made us all go crazy. Mosh pits and the whole crowd smiling. They made us sing, they made us laugh, made my friend cry, they made us angry (when they left the stage before the encore. Quote me: "Get your asses back on stage!")and they made us cheer like it was 1999 all over again. The encore kicked ass

Zoom forward 1 year. I pick up "Our live album is better than your live album". All that needs to be said lies on the cover. It was the exact same energy and quality all over again. The DVD is good quality ... Read More:

I bought this album a couple of months ago after hearing "When the Night Feels my Song" from a well-known mobile phone ad... and I love it! There isn't a bad track on the album. It's great for driving, and just chillin' out to!

Other reviews mention artists like Dispatch, Jack Johnson, Sublime and I honestly haven't heard of any of these (tho I may check them out now!). Being a bit of a Bob Marley fan I like the soft reggae sound / mix pop / mix blues. It really works.

If you've heard and like the single "When the Night feels my Song", then I can recommend the rest... try it!
