This was one of my favourite dub albums of the 80's. The reggae greats series were best-of compilations, good introductions to the bands featured, but this one was exclusively mixed, and essentially a dub version of Black Uhuru's Chill Out. To my ears Sly & Robbie's pure dub albums can sound too dry and sparse; no such worries here as Paul Smykle's remix produced a very lush spacey sound, nothing dull or repetitive, just an evolving, ambient, deep album. Even after 15 years of ambient and electronic music it stands up to repeated listenings. S & R's best ever album, alongside Language Barrier.

Busy Signal is a talented dancehall DJ whose varied repertoire consists of all types of lyrics and styles that are heard in reggae / dancehall music today i.e. slackness, tunes for the ladies, love songs, gangster / badman and reality. His lyrics are usually DJ'd or sung over a variety of rhythm tracks. This his 2nd LP loaded includes some of the above but not more in fact but disappointingly rather less. The UK track listing supplied and the interview I'd heard with `Busy' on a UK reggae show featured the killer JA lovers tune 'Automatic' produced by Donavan Germain. This was UB40's "difficult third album". Coming on the heels of the excellent and impact-making "Signing Off" and "Present Arms", I can remember at the time feeling just a little bored with UB40. That indeed was a view shared by many as the lead-off single "I Won't Close My Eyes" failed to set either the charts or the fans alight. The band seemed to have become set in that easy groove launched in the first album, that by now had become almost somnambulent. "Don't Do The Crime" is a wonderful, moving and strong track, but Ali Campbell's delivery veers on the comatose (although therein always lies a lot of Ali's appeal as a vocalist). "The Key" is a great, mighty, dub-drenched homage to reggae artists and "Folitician" sees Astro in the toasting form ... Read More:

This album is truly rammed with just about all the great cuts Mr.Issacs has cut during the years stated.His prolific volume of work for all these years means a few magic tracks may have been overlooked but this will be purely because of lack of space on two CDs.Trojan have done a great job on this set and whoever put it together must be a true fan.Even the Sly nd Robbie (Island tracks are included which brings his biggest hit-Night Nurse along with some others from the album.This realy does showcase the artist's vocal diversity as he has had to adapt to the onset of modern dance hall.
