I bought this album as a chance puchase based upon a magazine article that I had read about her. I was unaware of the hype and as they don't play very many of her songs on Classic FM and Radio 4, was also unaware of her music!! The melodies are soulful and her voice mature beyond her years. I just love this album: sad but uplifting - how's that for an oxymoron. Yes it took me back to my childhood in the 60s. I would love for her to cover "Ferry 'cross the Mersey". Comparisons to other artists such as Dusty Springfield are understandable but unfair. To me she sounds like ... well Duffy

Some people have got quite wound up about this guy being popular when there are lots of other "real" blues artists who deserve more attention... I'm no expert, but Seasick Steve's music seems fairly authentic and it's a good listen. The spoken introductions are a little annoying after a while, though, (to me, at least). Maybe he'll lead people on to other sorts of blues, which has to be a good thing. And if you like this, can I recommend you give Chris Whitley a try?

After 3 highly successful albums, Coldplay have reached the stage where they can let go a bit in their music. `Viva la Vida or Death and all his friends' does exactly that, it is like their equivalent of Radiohead's `Kid A'. Despite the annoyingly long title, it seems now that it is widely accepted that the `Viva la Vida' is the much preferred shortening of the title. This is shown through the front cover of the album which doesn't even mention the latter part of the album title.

`Parachutes', `Rush of Blood to the Head' and `X &Y', for me was a progression as each album was better than the previous. Although the sound varied slightly from album to album, the song choice was always the same. For instance, the slow ballad which looks at the positives ... Read More:

'All The Right Reasons' was Nickelback putting one foot firmly in 'classic rock' territory. This album takes the trend further, at times overstepping the mark entirely. Some of these songs sound like pastiche - think Wolfmother, but not as good. Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, AC/DC... you could probably find a pretty big nod to any of those and more in a song on 'Dark Horse'. It's not bad, but it doesn't sound like Nickelback.
I think the thing that grates on me the most is the lack of subtlety in some of the songs - one look at the song titles and you can pretty much guess where Chad's thought were when writing ('Yes, sex is always the answer, it's never a question 'cos the answer's yes...' Shame really since the song has a good riff). At least 'Animal' was somewhat tongue ... Read More:

Just the thing for a lazy winter's afternoon, in a comfortable chair, with an hour or so to spare before dinner. Conjures images of slow waltzes, American smooth, passion and romance. Not the deepest voice, but a mellow, musical and pleasant sound, drifting from one track to the next seamlessly. A must have for relaxation, a glass or two of red wine, and maybe some alluring company.

Having now heard her album, to compare her to Lily Allen is a travesty. Adele is far better, her smooth voice and song writing skill for starters...

And whilst we're on the subject of comparisons, there's only one similarity to Amy Winehouse - and that is I love both of their albums, when my expectations were low.

Daydreamer: A chilled, melodic start to her debut album, but on first listen you kinda want to skip it to speed up your new listening experience. This is definitely one of those tracks you have to listen to a few times. Vocally she is very good.

Best For Last: Sounds quite bluesy, simple yet effective guitar backing throughout the beginning. Then the song gets going, catchy, warming and just simply easy to listen to. Love it.

See how they prance on the beach. Look at the hippy's long pink shorts. Aren't they cheeky?

Good little pop number this - will never set the world alight, but a fun-filled head-nodder. Pop should be fun I think! This is as much fun as when Michael Jackson cut down a tree with his hand, or when Madonna wore coffee filters on her boobies.

I bought this CD mainly because I wanted 'about you now'. The track on the CD is nothing like the single and I feel it's a cynical attempt to make you buy the single as well. Very disappointed.
