Widely thought of now as Metallica's masterpiece............but not by me. Still, this is a terrific album, furious, ferocious and chock full of the huge riffery, solos and downright Metal-ness that, by that point in time, people expected from the 4 piece. It has a sadness too though that this was Cliff Burton's last album before his untimely death. But for me there is a lingering problem with 'Master' - some of the songs are overlong! I know that sounds silly, but 'Leper Messiah' is the worst example, an overlong jam, with not a lot musically going on, apart from an 11th hour time change that is good, but too little too late. The other is 'Orion' This might offend people because it's been the 'signature' theme to the Metallica videos where ... Read More:

When the lights came up in the cinema where we saw Wim Wenders' movie of the same name, we saw grown adults weeping. This is more than a band, it is a musical phenomenon. Such a synergy is rare in this day and age, and the vibe on this album is just fantastic.

Buy it and weep, because you have missed your chance to ever see or hear Ruben Gonzales, Compay Segundo or Ibrahim Ferrer playing live with the band again, but the remaining members still tour and the band is organic, progressing through the years with younger, equally talented musicians, so if you see a gig advertised and can get to it, don't miss it! This album has changed many lives...

I bought this album on the strength of the song You've Got A Friend, having thought there must be more to his brilliance than just this one song. I wasn't wrong. When I heard this album, there were many songs I already knew...I just did not know, for some reason, that James Taylor was behind them.

Overall, this has been a brilliant re-introduction and introduction to the best of James Taylor's music. It's very easy to listen to and to relax to, despite being moving and having lyrics which make you think.

My personal favourite tracks are: Fire And Rain, You've Got A Friend, Handyman, Shower The People, although most people know Carolina In My Mind and Something In The Way She Moves. There are no bad, weak or unworthy tracks on this compilation, ... Read More:

The Beatles. A band that are so familiar to everyone in the western world that it's easily possible to live 25-30 years without hearing one of their albums from start to finish. You just hear it everywhere. But that's just the thing; you always hear the same songs - essentially, the ones from the Red and Blue albums.

I remember being captivated at a very young age by the otherworldly songs on the Blue Album - Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds probably contributed to my later interest in psychedelic substances - and I began to appreciate the quality of songwriting on the Red Album, rather than the actual songs themselves when I started learning to play guitar at 16. And while I would readily admit that some of the Beatles' songs were truly amazing, I was never inspired ... Read More:

The 'Dylan Phase' refers to a statement a friend once made in regards to Bob Dylan's 1965-1967 phase, when everything he released, wheather on any of his albums or bootleg recordings, seemed to resonate with such greatness and importance as to reduce everything else to a mere substitute.

This is how I now feel Okkervil River are currently enjoying. With each release they seem to edge closer to a greatness that many aspire to but rarely claim. 'The Stage Names' was one of 2007's best records and this album just proves the vast amount of songwriting and playing talent that the band were creating around the time.

Songs such as 'Lost Coastline' and 'Bruce Wayne Campbell.......' would have perfectly slotted onto the parent album, but at the same time neither would ... Read More:

More melodic than Mr A-Z and so the production is slightly different to suit the style and its a fantastic result! A very gifted singer/songwriter, Favourite song is Butterfly; if i had to choose my favourite song's i would struggle so ive narrowed it down to just one.

The album such great feel and some great moments such as on Make It Mine in the 2nd verse, the few seconds before it goes into the chorus, the hits on buttefly are fantastic, the subtlety of the percussion on Coyotes starting with the electronic groove and moving to a real drum sound is genius. Theres plenty on here to make you say "this is a great album"

Big thumbs up!

Great album with all my favourite tracks. How disappointed I was though with the revamped new vocal for Wuthering Heights. It was overproduced too much backing and Kate's voice dare I say did sound rather tinny and harsh.

The rest of the tracks are super Cloudbusting is great and all my old favourites.

I must track down the original wuthering Heights as I have them all on vinyl but not CD.
