Being a rock guitar freak of two decades' standing, it is with embarrassment that I confess to only having heard this record for the first time in my 39th year.

Clearly I went to the wrong school and hung out with the wrong, self conscious types, and stupidly we looked askance at this bogan rock. More fool us.

What a remarkable, single minded, self-assured, exuberant record this is, and what a master stroke for a bunch of scot-inflected teenaged aussies to have settled on such a perceptively observed formula and executed on it so flawlessly (and stuck with it for the thirty years since!). All of rock's evolved extravagant frippery is discarded or reduced down to its elements. The drums mark out a thumping 4/4 on-beat; ... Read More:

One of the most overrated albums ever. Why G n R were ever feted beats me. They were nothing special, just one of a long line of dire hair metal acts from Sunset Strip. G n R only differed in that they tended to rip off Aerosmith rather than Van Halen. Slash is a competent enough guitar player but he's added nothing to the canon of axemanship but Axl Rose has a voice that strips paint. Even if you allow for the hits as being half OK the other tracks are dismal, plodding sub Stones riffage.

A superb well priced box set tracing Peter's decline, Peter's story has been heard before most recently on the excellent DVD Man Of The World.
A peerless collection from the late 60s where Peter had the world at this feet, whilst the Mac reappeared in many shapes over the last 40 years - this collection represents the heart of Fleetwood Mac. Timeless.

Listened to OH (ohio) once, thought, 'Dull. Very dull. Better give it a second chance.'

Listened to it twice, thought, 'Damn! Why did I waste my money?'

I'm a seasoned lambchop fan, have most of their albums, like dozens of tracks off the early albums, loved Is A Woman and listened to it over a hundred times - so it's not as if I don't like quiet, thoughtful, contemplative songs with obscure lyrics...

But...

...the praise Kurt Wagner has received for his recent discs has clearly gone to his head. The Damaged CD was ok but moving in the dull direction (and didn't improve when I saw him live) - and OH (ohio) trumps that. The tracks are all very, very samey and have little emotional charge. Even the cover of ... Read More:

This album is, despite only being a year old, classic Eagles, and one of their best. It was worth the wait, as although it's polished and sounds perfect, it is full of raw, real emotions, and every line is delivered with that feeling as a driving force.

I was also impressed they kept the momentum going with two discs, 21 tracks in fact, of consistently beautiful music, each song speaking directly to me as a listener and making me believe everything they're singing.

This is also a brilliant showcase of the different genres covered, from pure heartbreak as we can hear in I Don't Want To Hear Any More, to catchy, commercial almost pop sounds in How Long, to folkier music in No More Walks In The Wood, and a few others in between.

Fantastic album Pacific Ocean Blue, just get it and listen to it, plus the bonus tracks and the additional lost album 'Bambu', all beautifully packaged, make this a worthy tribute to a flawed genius; Dennis Wilson.

So Roger Waters threw the toys out of the pram and spat out his dummy. Who the hell cares? He went on to have a successful solo career and jolly good luck to him.

But to then say, oh well Pink Floyd is no longer in existence and this is a Gilmour solo album, under the name of Pink Floyd, is frankly infantile. This is David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright and they are as much the essence of Pink Floyd as Roger Waters ever was. Oh and by the way if Roger Waters was so damn sure that Floyd could not exist without him, why did he take such trouble to exclude Rick Wright and draw up legal papers preventing him from ever rejoining the group? Perhaps because he recognised, as anyone with a semblence of wits should, that great groups are not simply the product ... Read More:

I hate to criticise Lazytown because we love it and everything it stands for - but we are a bit disappointed by the music on this CD compared to the first CD. It is by the same person/lyricists, however, it does not have the energy/dance qualities of the first album - and it is spoilt by the distracting/off-putting american accents of the puppets which are not the real voices from the shows and are so different that it sounds like they have all become teenagers and everyone's voice has broken! My other criticism of this product is that the DVD is not as good because there is not an option to play ALL songs- you have to keep going in and out of menus to play each tune which is annoying because I can't leave my kids watching it and get on with the housework as I am continuously ... I'm rarely grabbed by a music video but I was by 'Hurricane Jane' from this debut and had to investigate. It remains a guilty pleasure - as does 'Teach Your Boyfriend' - another enjoyable single. To that short list I'd add 'Making Eyes' as a pretty decent effort.

Those three tracks ARE the album - great Cure meets Bloc Party meets disco pop songs. At a real push 'Listen to Your Body' is a serviceable indie disco stomper but I'm already getting desperate here. The rest ranges from uninspiring to truly awful (the last 2 songs are unlistenable). Just burn those three songs and have a warm bath to try and wash away the dirty feeling of listening to the rest!

There are too many filler tracks on this album to make it a worthwhile purchase. Perversely, it's one of those tracks - Eagle - that means this collection gets two stars instead of just the one. Stick to "Gold", it's the one with all the cheesey disco on and is all you need.
