This is probably the best compilation album of Stevie's work and that's great but I urge you all to use this as a taster of his work, there is lots of it and if you buy anything before 1980 you will love it if you like this. Unfortunately he's done nothing of real note after the 1970's and that was where his key work was done. The trilogy of talking book, innvervisions and Songs in the key of life are treasures to be explored in their won right and you should all do so, personally although songs in the key of life is seen as his masterpiece it was a double album brain dump of everything he was working on and contains material that is weaker than the shorter talking book and innvervisions, with Innvervisions representing his finest (non compilation) ... along with Duffy these are my 2 albums of the year. Every track is superb, very classy production and I love the use of horns on a lot of the tracks. Only 2 or 3 sound like Texas, otherwise you get Tamla, Nancy Sinatra and a French sound.I wish there were more songs as the 11 fly by when listening and its under 40 mins long. Do another next year Sharleen!

Yet another greatest hits album, but what the hell, this contains every decent track he has ever recorded. Many collections are padded out with gastly stocking filler tracks, not this one. I must admit that I really liked at least 20 of the tracks on this. Enough said.

I love this album. Ever since i bought it iv been driving my family and friends crazy singing all the catchy songs. As a big busted fan i think it is a very good pop/rock album. I would recommend it to anyone, the jonas brothers are more than just some "disney popcorn" and their songs are very well written. One of the best albums i own!

This is as fine an introduction to the works of Leonard Cohen as could be imagined. The track list, selected by the man himself, covers almost every period of his recorded output (Cohen is not prolific in the way, say, Bob Dylan is, or Neil Young), but I do feel some truly great stuff has been overlooked, i.e. the hushed, but haunting version of 'Story Of Isaac' from 1973's LIVE SONGS, which is one of the most profound things that anyone has ever written, the great live recordings from FIELD COMMANDER COHEN: Tour Of 1979, which admittedly was not released until after THE ESSENTIAL LEONARD COHEN appeared. Of those songs, I feel the title track is as good and epic a song as any he's recorded, and the version from NEW SKIN FOR THE OLD CEREMONY would have sufficed over e.g 'Take This ... Read More:

All in all this was decent to listen to. I loved Avril Lavigne's cover of The Scientist (although some bits were out of tune) and plenty more good listening from this double album. good choice opening with the foos!

recommended!

I bought this on the sole basis of the single 'Sweet about me'
I liked this song and her voice.... I still like that song and her voice but this album truly disappointed me.

The lyrics; nothing clever here, she rhymes everything, Owe, Show. Thunder, Wonder. Night, Bite. Play, Day. Grumpy, Bumpy. Ding and Swing!! and Maybe Baby!! No!! I know she's young but this just goes to show poor inexperienced songwriting and in my mind very lazy!

Her voice is quite pleasant and some of the tunes are nice but the laziness of the lyrics just made me laugh and after about 2 listens it just irritated me...

Maybe she will mature and with some songwriting lessons or a good mentor she will get better but she has not impressed me with this album.

If, like me, you're one of those people who was blown away by Felt Mountain but disappointed by what came after then Seventh Tree may give you cause to rejoice.

Although a very different beast to FM this album shares the same quirky, sensual and exotic oddness as Goldfrapp's remarkable debut. The main difference between the two is mood - FM was frequently quite dark (and in the case of Deer Stop, downright creepy) but Seventh Tree is a long summer's day to Felt Moutain's eerie twilight.

Goldfrapp obviously don't mind annoying their fans - having thoroughly cheesed-off many Felt Moutain lovers (including me) by going off in a wildly differnt direction for their next two albums they've now annoyed some of the fans of those albums by abandoning the dance-orientated electronica ... Should be no surprise to find Robert Plant making great music with any musician. Being famous for making music in one genre has never stopped this singer from admiring other forms. He has, after all, appeared with Fairport at Cropredy and was an admirer of the Incredible String Band back in the day. Nice to hear these two together and with such a great band of musicians. Good also, to hear a Doc Watson song being aired. Be interesting to hear Zep cover Doc eh?
