So who would have thought of teaming Bring Crosby, Satchmo Armstrong AND Frank Sinatra together with the music of Cole Porter to dream up a "society story" around the well-heeled Newport Rhode Island clan? Well it works as a stylish collection of romantic tunes with laid back performances by Crosby. Sinatra brings a hard edge to the dialogue and albeit a slightly unusual pairing with Celeste Holm as magazine reporter/photographer duo. Grace Kelly is beautiful but almost too clean cut to be real and frankly over acts throughout. Louis Armstrong and his band adds spice in a few places and the "Well Did You Evah" duo by Crosby & Sinatra is a classic. O.K. the story is badly contrived but as long as we get to the wedding all's well that ends ... Read More:

I wholeheartedly disagree with some of the reviewers who claim that Glass has provided the perfect setting for Cohen's later poetry. For one, Cohen on paper is not as great a poet as he is in song. In fact, his later poetry harks back a good deal to the poetry of the beats (Kerouac, Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, etc) and is comparable to a great degree to the late, great Charles Bukowski, but not as good, in my opinion. The difference being that Bukowski had no choice but to immerse himself in a squalid existence, and write, as it were, inside the belly of the whale. Cohen, on the other hand, has always exuded real class, and he has a much higher-minded side to his character, so that i.e. in 'The Energy Of Slaves' when he writes of Valentina, that "I ... I was given this album as a Christmas present, and I can only say it's one of the best presents I've ever received! Lots of old favourites are here, including 'Sosban fach' and of course 'Land of my Fathers'. But for me the highlights are a truly rousing rendering of 'Men of Harlech' (enough to make even an army of the dead want to rise and fight!)and Bryn's impassioned delivery of one of the greatest of hymns, 'Cwm Rhondda (Bread of Heaven)'. Even if one is not religious (and I am not), this must surely move all who hear it - it had me in tears. It comes from the guts, and it goes straight to the guts. Terrific stuff!

Blade Runner changed my life, I was born in 1979 so wasn't able to appreciate the film until it had been out a good 13 years (I actually saw the director's cut first). I bought the original soundtrack in 1999 and it has been an integral part of my life ever since, I have just discovered by accident that this album has been released, I'm so excited I might wee myself...

I apologise that this isn't actually a review but if you take my advice now to please buy this album then it was not a waste of your time to have read it. It is quite simply the most sublime soundtrack to a film ever made. A moment of clarity that only comes along once or twice a century...

My daughter bought me this for my birthday, cant stop playing it full volumn in the car. Cry everytime it gets to "slipping thru my fingers" I can really relate to this song. A must for every Abba fan and even some who aren't. All the cast did a fantastic job with all the songs, some better than others.

If you're reading this review and thinking about buying this album stop reading this review and get your charge card out.
This is, bar none, the best compilation album I've ever come across. I'm shamed to admit I was unfamiliar with many of the tracks and artists until I saw the film. In hindsight I now understand the magnitude of the gaping whole this was in the development of my muscial appreciation. A vista of 70's soul-funk really opened up for me post-Jackie-Brown.

I love the film. I love the music and love most of this album. Some tracks seem a bit strange such as the second one which is why I was a bit choosy as to which ones went onto my MP3 player. The main theme is haunting and deffinitely the best, the ceilidh music less memorable. All in all though this is a good soundtrack album. If only I could get hold of the film on DVD I would be very happy.

The soundtrack of Forrest Gump certainly lives up to the reputation of the fantastic film which is also blessed with several Oscars. All the classic rock from the 1950s through the hippy 70s and on to the 80s is brought to life through a dual-cd album also featuring the soundtrack to the movie. Truly the greatest collection of songs ever to be burned onto the shiny discs. A must buy for the fans of every type of music!

Listen to the CD - then read the book. Once you've got Keillor's voice in your head, you'll never read his books the same way again. Gentle humour about growing up in Lake Wobegon, the town the map-makers missed (yes, it's in Mist County). Carefully observed detail, related with love (and occasionally impatience). Yes, this is small-town America, and eventually Keillor escaped to the big city. These are the memories of his childhood.
