This is the music you here as you fall into your dreams. these are the sounds of your subconscious. Beautiful and terrifying in equal measure. Think of your grand mpthers musical boxes, steam driven fairground organs and the catholic incantations of adolescent schoolgirls and you might come some way to approximating the sonic pleasures captured on this soundtrack. In parts it is whimsical and light as the mechanical harpsichords play the same refrain throughout but don't be lulled into a sense of delightful reverie because around every corner there is a jolt or jarrring sound that reminds you that this is an unsettling soundtrack. Churchbells peeling in the distance and wolves baying are just a couple of the gothic delights. Read More:

After such a fantastic scoring effort on Batman, I thought Elfman's hopes of topping it were fairly slim. He not only topped it but in my opinion produced a classic that is my favourite score of Elfman's career. Sandwiched between the two Batman movies, the effect of Elfman & Burton's Edward Scissorhands is obvious (Birth of a Penguin) and the festive setting of Returns gives the perfect opportunity for the 'La-la' choir that the composer handles so well. The highlight of this score is the addictive four-note Penguin theme that perfectly captures the twisted spirit of the villain in all of its variations. In it's last statement (The Final Confrontation) the funeral arrangement of his theme stayed with me long after the movie was over. For ... Read More:

Recently acquired this, and have seen the film about a month before. But what can I say, it is simply magical, and I have to admit, I loved the music when I was watching the film, it just carries you off, and lets your imagination take hold. This soundtrack is now among my favourites with LOTR and John Williams collections. Go Buy!
