Don't even think of buying one of 'Highlight' CD's as there's not even one song on here deserves to be missed out. Cameron Mackintosh is the best producer about at the moment and Boublil & Schönberg have written and composed a score that is gripping and full of raw emotion which makes you feel for all the character's feelings. I have listened to the recording at least once a day if not twice since I received it (please bare in mind that I got it about a month ago so it ain't one that gets boring quickly). If you like Les Miserables and Martin Guerre then this is one for you, If you haven't buy them aswell! What can I say,music of kander and ebb,cy coleman and come one sing sing sing!!you definitely have to see the show to get the idea of Fosse's brilliance,but the cd plays tribute to the best of this wonderful mans life,picking the best songs he worked with.If your a jazz,swing or just a fan of musicals and soundtracks in general,you'll love this album.The songs themselves stand out as individual classics;"big spender" of course,forget the shirley bassey version,this version sticks closely to the original used in the stage and film version which has much more depth and weight to it.The luscious versions of "Bye,Bye,Blackbird","sing,Sing,Sing" and "Steam Heat" really do have to be seen to get the full wow factor,but the vocal performances and arrangements are fit for this ... The score to Hitman contains everything you would expect from an action film - The boombastic moments of action, to the quieter moments of emotion, and everything in-between. They're all here in their obligatory form. But each one is composed and portrayed very well. The track "Istanbul" is probably my favourite. It's a beautiful soft piece containing a lovely cue which is morphed, slowed and quickened elsewhere on other tracks. In the film it's mainly used alongside the main female lead, and ofcourse as the them to Istanbul. The Hitman action theme (first heard on track 3 "The Belicoff Assassination") sounds like part of the cue used at the start of The Bourne Identity, but it's still a good theme. Yes, this is an amazing soundtrack, and would be enjoyed by anyone, even those who have not seen the film. Morricone gives us a marvellous interpretation of the musical psychology of the talented but melancholy 1900. There is some powerful and nostalgic jazz and ragtime, but also some heavily romantic pieces like 'Playing Love' that shoot from the grandiose to the intimate. He captures the atmosphere of being at sea and the romance and nostalgia of the Atlantic crossings. If you do not cry at all during this album, then you are probably more hard hearted than you think.

What a wonderful and uplifting album. I saw only a handful of 'The Tudors' episodes on TV but was captivated by the opening theme-tune. I decided to take a chance and purchase the soundtrack CD because of, partly, the other reviews and also the wonderfully cheap price some Marketplace seller's were advertising. The score is terrific, with haunting melodies and sweeping flute's - very in keeping with the music featured in 'The Lord of the Rings' series. I personally found myself getting caught up in the music (and drama!) of the rising tunes. Highly recommend - even if not a fan of the series (as I wasn't) because I doubt you'll be disappointed.
