After watching Becoming Jane at the movies this past March, I had mixed feelings about the production. The music however by Adrian Johnston is just amazing. I enjoy listening to it and my friends have asked me what music is playing when they are over. If you enjoy soundtracks from P&P, Emma, Nicholas Nickleby, Little Women, Miss Potter, Sense And Sensibility just to name a few. You will enjoy this wonderful soundtrack. Buy it you will be glad that you have.

A fantastic CD featuring absolutely the best instrumentalists of our time playing a superb choice of music. There are no bad ones and they all can be danced to, if you know how to dance. The musicians seem to have taken on board the uniqueness of the moment provided them by the greatest "dance" film maker of our time, Carlos Saura. They truely put their hearts into it particularly Horacio Salgan who at the age 80 or above plays with the urgency, enthusiasm and energy of a world champion downhill racer. Along a whole host of glittering names, you are given the opportunity to hear maestros Nestor Marconi at the bandoneon & Obaldo Leo et all.

Michael Riesman has been involved with Philip Glass for more than thirty years, and he brings his full experience in conducting, performing and arranging the composer's work to bear on this superb collection of virtuosic piano arrangements. These are not mere "reductions" or "transcriptions", but more like "retellings" of the originals (if you'll excuse the pretension). I say this because the pieces have been selected and arranged with such great care that the effect really is as if they were originally composed for solo piano. Having bought this CD, and finding it, for the greater part, very good, I bought its predecessor: "Lost In The Stars." The latter proved to be not as engaging ( I believe it is now deleted, however), and also wondered why Lou Reed had two bites of the "September Song" cherry. Neither version is up to scratch (I am fan of Reed's early works.) He manages to transform a sublime composition into what sounds like a stereotypical Reed number on "L.I.T.S"; but attempts a spoken-word interpretation on this album. I am always in favour of radical re-workings of songs, but Reed fails here, in my opinion. Bryan Ferry has recorded a great version of it on "As Time Goes By." Last week I was at a beach party in Portugal where the band got up and sang Tu Vuo' Fa L'Americano. Folk were divided - some running away from the 'insolent noise' to quote the film - others, me included rejoiced! Quite simply I've become a jazz disciple because of this body of work.

You never realise the beauty of the music until you hear it away from the film, and then when you watch the film again it seems all the better for its soundtrack. It's musical, romantic, simple yet effective. In typical Elizabethan style, where music was a means of broadcasting your ideas, this soundtrack does just that.
