This is without doubt the best of the most recent versions of Tosca. Everyone is on tip top form and Pappano really excels in this music. There really isn't a weak link in this set. I did think Raimondi may be past his best but his performance is excellent. What happened to Angela between this recording and her performance at CG in the role we may never know, but there is no comparison between this top flight performance and the one she phoned in when I saw her at Covent Garden. Buy this set it is glorious.

This is a BRILLIANT soundtrack and just as good as the first with the memorable theme tunes of the organ playing DAVY JONES, the satanic monstrous KRAKEN and the tuneful, boingy theme of the guy we all love JACK SPARROW. There's also plenty more music from the film (which did I forget to mention is AMAZING only second in my opinion to the STAR WARS SAGA) such as the music accompnying the brilliantly choregraphed sword fight on the island leading to the giant wheel and much more. However I agree with the previous review (that you may have read also) that the 'remix', the last track on the CD is absolutely AWFUL and I can't express this enough, its TERRIBLE, its DRAB, ITS THE WORST TRACK OF MUSIC I'VE EVER HEARD and does not fit in with the other music ... Of course the much-heard Requiem theme is absolutely brilliant, and this soundtrack centres largely upon that theme. It combines the wonderful ringing of the string quartet with electronic beats and mellower moments and this creates quite a unique soundtrack. It's highly recommended! In my opinion, it could have branched out a bit more. I ADORE the main theme of course but I think more variations on it would have been good - so much could be done with it and sometimes I felt the tracks didn't go far enough to expand on the original thematic content, but it's still a great CD.

After watching the film, then buying the book and film guide, this was was a natural choice. I have listened to it more than any other CD in the collection. The orchestral tracks are exremely well composed and performed. There are tracks from the original soundtrack too (including La Scala's spontanious opera songs). A classic!

The Sound of Music is an entertaining, but not a great musical. Unfortunately, this recording does nothing but highlight its flaws- cutesy children, trite lyrics (in dear Oscar Hammerstein's defense, he was dying of cancer when writing it) and flat characters. Connie Fisher sounds like a very, very poor imitation of Julie Andrews and has all the charisma and acting abilities of a block of wood. The only saving grace is Lesley Garret, who sings the hell out "Climb Ev'ry Mountain."

Stick to the movie soundtrack, there's a reason why it's a classic. Alternatively, if you want something a bit different, try the 1998 Broadway revival recording with the divine Rebecca Luker, which is much more worthy of your time and money.

This is a score for all fans of the comic book movie genre. Escpially those who like the darker-toned/more adult themed ones just like the Blade trilogy and of course Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns (which has another great score).

The music is brooding and really makes you feel like you want to go around your town/city dressed up (not that I would) in a bat costume going around sorting out crimes in a super car (one of the most memorable tracks of the CD is the charge of the Batmobile) and the Joker's music is great too because it's comical and camp but in a dark and twisted way if you know what I mean and, like Batman's themes, describes the character well. The final 6 tracks are outstanding and really make you root for the hero.

I was trying to read a book while my wife was watching the TV with 'the Virgin Queen' going - and the music kept pulling me out of my book. In the end I just had to get the soundtrack, and some of these tracks are absolutely great. Not all of them - there are a couple of instrumentals that leave me quite neutral - but the ones with the singing are superb. Through this CD I discovered that the singers are the Medieval Baebes, and I have been buying more CDs of *them*. But I still like some of these tracks best of all - 'Virgin Queen', 'Miserere nomine', 'Say it's not so' are quite mesmerizing. The first is based (loosely) on a poem written by Queen Elizabeth I and that adds a frisson. But even without that there are plenty of frissons - music with inbuilt tension... It may be cod-ancient, ... Read More:

This is a very enjoyable film - well acted, great scenery etc - but what makes it really memorable is the music. Rather like the combination of John Barry and Mozart made the "Out of Africa" soundtrack unforgettable, so Nigel Hess's arrangements and Josh Bell's violin makes this special. If you think you already know your favourite top ten classical pieces, listen to the finale (after Paganini) and be prepared to think again!
