I know I am just echoing previous reviews, but this is a delicious soundtrack. Patrick Doyle is such a gifted and sensitive composer, adding depth and richness to films without detracting from the visual drama. Like other people, I found Jane Eaglen's version beautiful, but ultimately too rich for the musical genre. Such a pity that Kate Winslett's pure rendition was not captured for this recording.

It has to be said that all(non live) recordings of Le Mis have their faults. For one thing they cannot re~create the atmosphere of a live performance(as these discs do).
Not only that, this recording gathers together the best of (many) Le Mis casts from around the world, and manages to give us the electric feeling that a staged performance does.
Add to this the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which reveals the true emotion, breadth and sweep of Boublil & Schonberg's wonderful score.
As a sidenote,I don't quite know what disc of Le Mis(previous reviewer) Mr Oram was listening to.I have just listened to both discs on headphones(which are merciless for showing up recording faults) and can find none.
If anything can be described ... Read More:

Like the film, Horner's Oscar winning score has it's moments. 'Never an Absolution' is marvellous, 'Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave' is OK (once you get past the irritating Chariots of Fire-esque effects) and that's it really. Much of the score is ruined by Horner's insistence on choosing instrumentation rooted in the story over what would work better.

Southampton for instance is spoilt by annoying synthesised choirs. The composers reason for this was apparently to give the film a contemporary feel, unfortunately it just grates, particularly when you realise how well-written the rest of the instrumentation is. The action cues are fine, but nothing mind-blowing. 'My Heart Will Go On,' performed by the ever-irritating Celine Dion, is utterly ... Read More:

The film was pretty good, thoug didn't always work. Nicholson was the star, Basinger just screamed !!!

As for the music well overall it was much better than the film. 'The Future' starts us off, a terrific funk workout pinctuated with snippets from the film and tender strings which really resonate. 'Electric Chair' is an altogether ballsier affair with 'The Joker' confessing he is a bad man and always will be. Then we come to the weakest tracks on the album. 'Partyman' was featured in the film (not all here were). It's a funky jam, definetely toe tapping but not the most memorable, though the scene where 'The Joker' is wrecking the art gallery in which this track features is. 'The Arms of Orion' like its predecessor it was released as a single ... Read More:

I watched the film and was disappointed. I was given the soundtrack and was impressed. It is a mix of middle eastern themes, orchestral drama and choral sounds. It is moving, dramatic and entertaining. If the film was as good as the soundtrack, it would be a classic! Not as good as the Gladiator Soundtrack, which in my opinion is the best ever. However, this runs it close. It is very good. It stands lone from the film. If you enjoyed the Gladiator soundtrack, I think you will enjoy this as well.

This is my favorite soundtrack album. I like the almost heartbreaking tracks such as 'Rupert Bear' and 'As far as Florence'; the exotic sound of others that conjurs up the desert and the fun ones such as 'Wang wang blues'. Most soundtrack albums have a few good good tracks but that is all. This is so complete and is a pleasure to listen to all the way through.

As soundtracks go, this has to be one of my favourites, and I would go as far to say that it is up among the ranks of Hans Zimmer and co. What makes this soundtrack so wonderful is the variety of music genres incorporated within the album. From celtic bagpipes to eastern flutes with beautiful vocals.

Some soundtracks lose their emotive power when played without the support of the film/program to which they were made, however the BSG album manages to provide the same emotive and adrenalin sensations you feel when watching it.

Overall the tracks are beautifully composed, each one drawing you in until the very end, and the variety of styles within the album are enough to keep you interested all the way through the album.

This is the revived version of the classic 'Oliver' musical that was based on 'Oliver Twist' by Dickens. It is a triumph! I absolutely love it! With music that lifts you up and stirs the emotions. We are invited to follow Oliver, a small timid orphan, on his journey in search of love. Along the way we meet such wonderful characters as Fagan (played by Jonathan Price), the artful dodger, Nancy(played by Sally Dexter) and the terrifying Bill Sykes (played by the wonderful Miles Anderson). It is truley a heart warming story that is told so beautifully as only music could! It is like one of those films that you can watch over and over again - each time you listn to it you find something new and wonderful! Don't let faffy school productions put you off such a beautiful musical! Top class!

49.Kelly's Heroes by: Original Soundtrack

One of the best soundtrack albums you can buy. As a fan of the film, i've wanted to get my hands on the OST for ages - and this release is superb. It features all the main themes and music, and even has a section on the end composed of tracks from the original vinyl release that were slightly different or in some cases, were not part of the original score, but used to make the vinyl release more poppy and commercial. The accompanying booklet is outstanding, with information on the film and each track. Oh, why can't other soundtrack releases be made to this standard ?

Bought this album post seeing the film Frida - another must.
The soundtrack is as mesmerising as Frida herself. One can leave this album on replay and never tire of it. I wholly and heartedly recommend it.
