Well, this soundtrack is good for a quick listen, but for film fans who adore the film it's not going to whet your appetite. The themes are either cut short or present in an edited form, and the majority of the music from the 117 minutes runtime (which was almost constantly underscored) is not on this CD. I would recommend avoiding this purchase if you're looking for a musical experience to match that of the film. The best solution at this current date is to hunt down the Esper Edition bootleg, released recently (either late 2004 or early 2005 depending on who you believe). It's a great treat to listen to this superb King and I soundtrack CD. The EMI-Angel engineers have skilfully and lovingly remastered the soundtrack recording such that the voices and orchestra sound clean, clear and vibrant. The critic-proof performances have spoken for themselves and hardly need any endorsement. I know the soundtrack means you only get to hear Yul Brynner in one song, but this is a small matter, for this reissue has given us some extra, tantalising music. It's great to hear the Uncle Tom's Cabin Ballet, superbly renderred by Rita Moreno as Tuptim. And it's also great to hear the underscore to the dialogue without needing to hear the dialogue itself. I do wish this CD had included more underscore, but at least it's a milestone ... Read More:

John Barry's Dances with Wolves is a masterful work. It can be listened to over and over again, without becoming tiresome. Buy this score and you will treasure it in your collection for years to come. Do not listen to reviews on this page that put this score down, what you need to do is make your own opinion, and not listen to people who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. This score is one of the best scores by the masterful composer John Barry, buy it NOW and you will NOT regret it.

This CD had many good tracks, but it is the "Adagio For Strings" that really stands out. Other tracks of note are "Hello, I Love You" by The Doors and "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane. These songs capture the atmosphere of Vietnam as well as the film did. If you like any Vietnam films or just great music you'll love this.

Usually I'm not a fan of the Coppola soundtracks, they work with the film, but on their own they've been pretty flat, nothing special, good, but not outstanding; Virgin Suicides, if I'm honest, sounded too repetative, it's my least favourite OST and Air album in one. Lost In Translation had a good soundtrack, it complemented the film well, and you could listen to it, particulartly whilst travelling, I found. For me the LiT ost brings up a lot of happy memories, and it gets me very emotional listening to it, but a lot of it has to do with when it touched my life. Kevin Shields' 'City Girl' being the most profound. But this OST, for 'Marie Antoinette', it nearly out does the film. It's like a mix tape that someone made for ... Read More:

It is almost every single sung line from the movie, minus (thank God)Timothy Spall's intorduction to the 'Pretty Women' duet sung by Alan Rickman and Johnny Depp. There are some spoken lines on CD as well, such as, 'At last, my arm is complete again,' as well as a line from Alan Rickman. It does not however include the last reprisal of 'Dam that's Good' at the climax of the movie which does give the album a strange ending on 'Nothing's going to harm you.' The album itself comes complete with words to every song on CD. If you are looking for some score music from the movie as well, hopefully the Introduction Score ... Read More:

Great set of numbers from the film. But whatever you do don't miss Trevor Jones'snippets of incidental music from the film. If you play them sequentially, without the main tracks, they form a coherent threead, with the theme developing through subtle change from bright and whimsical, through wistful, through to dramatic and doom laden. Those incidental snippets actually move me more than the main pieces, perhaps except for the masterful d'Oranjuez.

There are a few minor complaints about this soundtrack. Why on earth didn't they dub the Sharks in the Quintet? Some of their notes are quite flat and the Jets also go wrong in this song. Why did no one notice? Beautiful vocals from Marni Nixon and Jim Bryant (dubbing Natalie Wood & Richard Beymer) but the info on the CD isn't correct about Anita's vocals. They are all credited as being sung by Betty Wand but that isn't the case. Wand dubs "A Boy Like That", Rita Moreno sings her own in "America" and the "Quintet" is Moreno until the counterpoint section when Marni Nixon takes over to sing the high notes (singing both Anita & Maria's vocals). It also fails to mention that it is Tucker Smith who sings the opening of "The Jet Song" ... Read More:
