I rediscovered this album recently when I was clearing out my loft. My copy was an LP and very scratched. Someone however, had the initiative and good sense to check Amazon and I am now the proud owner of what I consider to be one of the greatest album ever. Dorothy Moore's voice is superb. The songs must surely have been written specifically for her because her delivery of each song is dynamite. If you are still listening to Gabrielle's album 'Rise' then this album is a must although I rate Moore's voice as superior. I find it difficult to name a favourite track, although some are clearly easier to listen to. I suspect many people will probably list tracks 1 to 5 as their most favourite. here is vol2 wow one cover version thats all bridge over troubled water which is a fab version this is a good cd too which is better the 60s 1 or the 70s? cant decide i love the song baby i love you from vol1 its cool well what you waiting for buy them both and the albums i suggested!!

This is a good, solid, Aretha Franklin album that doesn't quite reach the heights of her best work, but which nevertheless still contains some great tracks. Foremost among them is You And Me, written by Aretha herself in the classic mould of such titles as All The King's Horses and Day Dreaming. A beautiful song.Then, of course, you also have Don't Play That Song, and Spirit In The Dark, both of which were hit singles, a great little song called Pullin', and generally very good covers of material as diverse as The Thrill Is Gone and Oh No Not My Baby. Recorded in Alabama after his stint at Atlantic Records and co produced by Burke and his (then) partner Tamiko Jones. The opening (& title ) track is Creedence Clearwaters' "Proud Mary" .... The sound of the opener pretty much sets the scene for the whole album. Solomon Burke = very sweet voice for such a big man He knows how deliver a song. Other highlights include the spine chilling "Uptight Good Woman", the up beat "How Big a Fool (Can a Fool Be)" and covers of Otis Reddings' "These Arms of Mine" & Marvin Gayes' "I'll be Doggone". Nice!
