Absolutely fantastic album. after listening to this i can't believe that more people haven't heard of James Carr. His voice has an emotional power and rawness that i don't think i have ever heard before. The more you listen to this album, the better it gets. A real soul classic.

Let me start by saying that this is such a good live album. If you like Otis and want a good live album by him, then this is definitely the place to start. I've got quite a few of his live albums (whiskey a go go etc) and have to say that this is him at his best. His voice is incredible, and he has great interaction with the crowd. It gives you shivers to hear him sing fa fa fa fa (sad song), with the crowd singing along so obviously enjoying themselves. You also get some great ballads as well. The only down side is that it is just over 38 mins long and when a live album is as good as this, you are left wanting more. Buy a perfect piece of soul music and enjoy.

A great album, stuffed to the seams of both his solo hits, as well as tracks with the Falcons. The album includes cover notes chronicling the emergence of Pickett's career with photos from the era, including tables of the songs' chart positions, release dates etc. The real treat are the two live tracks. I should say "live `n' burnin'" as specified on the track listings. On CD 1 we have "In the Midnight Hour" with Booker T. and the MGs with the Mar-Key Horns backing with the Marvellous Montague MC preaching in the background. CD 2 has the stomping track "Funky Broadway" as performed live in Ghana at a music festival. All great stuff on 2 CDs. Every Pickett fan must own this album.

Aretha Franklin had hit the big time with her first album for Atlantic, whose A&R man Jerry Wexler had teamed her with the famed Muscle Shoals rhythm section and producer Tom Dowd. The result was the 1967 landmark album, "I Never Loved a Man The Way I Love You", defining Aretha as the Queen of Soul.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it seems to be the motto for this, her 2nd album, also recorded in 1967. The same team are assembled in support, the mood is soulful, and Aretha once again demonstrates her ability to cover any song and make it her own, taking on Sinatra and the Stones and finding something new.

Astonishingly, there would be a third album recorded in 1967, "Lady Soul", which contained "Chain Of Fools" and "Natural Woman", and there ... Read More:

58.Greatest Hits by: Aretha Franklin

Music : Greatest Hits
There are several compilation double CD's covering most of Aretha's more well known songs and I think this is the best. It is available at a low price and has better quality mastering than say on "RESPECT" with a lot less hiss on the older tracks.{see my review of that and please note I did not know of this CD at the time of writing}. There is another similar CD called "Greatest Hits (remastered) Import, ASIN: B00004Y29P" which costs a great deal more and has fewer tracks, of which almost all are in the same running order. Despite having a good ear(2) and stereo I could see no difference in sound quality on the remastered CD, so why pay more for less. Chris B

How do you separate Aretha's Atlantic albums from the late 60's to the mid 70's? Each has it's own classic tracks, each it's hidden gems and always that superb voice, soaring from a whisper to a scream with no apparent effort.

Aretha was the acknowledged Queen of Soul, and built on her reputation with this combination of original tracks and interpretations of familiar material. The latter is well represented by "Natural Woman" (Carole King), "Money Won't Change You", here merely uptempo, rather than JBs frenetic original, and a sublime "People Get Ready", which I am sure Curtis would have appreciated.

For original material, the anthem of the hopelessly in love, "Chain of Fools" and the bluesy "Good To Me..." stand out, and as for the ... Read More:
