Excellent voices overpowered by incongruous orchestral accompaniment. The richness of the voices was spoiled for one who wants a male voice choir to be just that. This cd does more than it says on the tin, unfortunately.

I'm surprised by the number of reviewers who criticise Katherine because she has not performed in opera and then compare her unfavourably with leading opera singers. Nowhere on this CD (or any of her CDs and DVDs) is she described as an opera singer and her recordings do not claim to be opera. Her recordings do include some arias from opera (though not here) and these are sung very well, but she also includes Welsh songs,(again sadly none on this disc), hyms, songs from musicals and other works. This variety increases that buyers might not like every track. I bought this CD because it contains 'Samcta Maria' set to the music of the Intermezzo from Mascagmi's Cacalleria Rusticana' 'Be Still My Soul' the hymn set to the main theme from Finlandia ... When this album hit the shops Pres.Kennedy had just been assasinated. As no one felt like celebrating-so they say-the album was a total flop and warehouses all over the country had 1000s of returned copies.
Understandably Spector was annoyed after all that work!
Probably the fact that the Singing Nun represented that years Christmas hit!
In 1964 the British Invasion which gave a boost to his career as the Ronettes toured the U K and the man came here to nob with the Stones and his British answer Andrew Loog Oldham who would prove beneficial.
as for the Beatles they would be his Saviour and by the early 70s both Harrison and Lennon had increased his bank balance considerably as well as his ego.Plus the fact that Apple had reissued ... Read More:

best of their 4 albums.
their most consistent, it really sounds like they are on fire and inspired.
raw rock at its best a-la 70's ac/dc or credence clearwater revival but not mere copyists, they have their own very unique twist on things.
better than the 1st album as this is more cohesive as the 1st was a mix of an earlier e.p and some new songs and as a result sounds a bit disjointed, i doubt they will ever be this good again as their next 2 albums are lacking in both fire and inspiration.

At first I was skeptical of the whole Johnny Cash is a great musician/songwriter, and thought it was oldie country music for the oldies to reminisce about, and say how they never make music like they used to; that was until I was given this CD to try after seeing the film based upon his life.

Johnny Cash is without doubt a very clever songwriter/commentator with catchy 2-3min songs that reveal a story with very poignant and/or witty poetry set to music you'll hum along to after very few listens. Clear examples of this can be found in songs such as 'A boy named Sue' and 'San Quentin.'

This album captures the highlights of his music career from the early songs right to the covers of modern artists - which he covers in his 'Cash sound' that ... Read More:

My initial interest in Jordin Sparks happened without me even knowing it. My bus driver was playing an album one night after school and as soon as I began to listen to these songs I really liked the music. It was so rhythmical and her voice made me feel so good after a long school day. I only heard up to track six for most of the time, but I loved the songs. I really wanted to know who this was. One track that particularly captivated me was No air, which I could tell was a duet. The power in that song that I felt from the very beginning has stayed with me.
In the early summer of this year I saw the video for No air and I saw this name Jordin Sparks, and I had heard it somewhere before. I realised that this was the album played on the bus. I was blown away by the video and ... Read More:

Brilliant artist, superb songs, awful remaster. This has took all the raw sound out of this mans music. If you listen to the originals there is no comparison.Messing about with tracks either works or it does not, this is the latter.

If, when you hear the warbling sound of Brandon Flowers erractic maybe flaky voice your ears prick up with glee, The Killers secretly brilliant lyrics pummelling through you, then I see you have no choice but to purchase this album immediately. You will not be put off by the simularity of the many tracks. (I frequently start singing one and accidently somehow blend it into another part way through.)
Nevertheless for the rest of us it is a good (rather long) collection of many moderate tracks, but intertwinded with some sparkling gems, true rarities. Nothing less than is expected.
A good heart gushing chat on the phone with a friend you haven't seen in a while to tide you over whilst you eagerly await their homecoming.

It had been a tough year and a bit for The Beatles. Their manager Brian Epstein had committed suicide, their Magical Mystery Tour had seen them mauled by critics for the first time, and their attempts to practise transcendental meditation in India with the Maharishi had ended in disaster. It was during that ill-fated trip that most of these songs were written.

Inside the band itself, the situation was also far from hunky dory. Lennon would soon lose interest in the band, spending more and more time with his new partner Yoko Ono instead. Harrison was increasingly sick of being overlooked by John and Paul, who still only permitted him a few songs per album (he has four out of thirty here). Sensing this unease in the band, McCartney increasingly took charge of the group, a fatherly attitude ... Read More:

OK, critics will say this is another very regional accent sounding album, one of many artists like that at the moment (artic monkeys, reverand and the makers etc.) but saying that, this is a very good album for me. Nice easy listening, catchy without being nasty pop music. Dont expect anything too deep, but good iPod music, especially when the sun shines. Follows on nicely from the last album. It's on my playlist!
