Music : Against
Whats the best way to put this? Everybody is wrong. Sadly this world is full of people who are afraid of progression. This sort of person does not like anything but albums such as Kill 'Em All, Reign In Blood and so on. Some people would only be happy if a band kept releasing albums with crap production forever, full of songs they could probably write themselves considering how many times they've listened to whichever band they're into's first four albums. No more is such a stereotype found than amongst fans of metal. So-called Sepultura fans have been unfairly harsh on this album. These are the people who followed Max Cavalera into the mainstream and never looked back. Back on the home front, his former bandmates delved into obscurity and unearthed ... Read More:

Music : The World Needs a Hero
Personally, despite what a lot of people have said in their reviews, i think this is superb. There are a few dubious tracks, but overall its got some fantastic music to offer. Technically speaking, the compositions are the best Megadeth have produced since "Rust in Peace," particularly the solo's. Marty's successor, Al Pitrelli, is well tasty, he and Mustaine really complement each other on this record, especially when they "tag team" (i.e. Warhorse, Return to Hangar). If you like Megadeth for their Guitar solo's, this will be right up your alley...

Some of the comments in other reviews really do make me laugh. "1000 times goodbye," & "Burning Bridges" are two of my favourite Megadeth songs at the moment, everyone likes "Dread & the Fugitive ... Read More:

The latter years of Napalm Death at Earache in the mid-late 90's saw the band develop into a mature, slick, mid-pace death metal band - mid-tempo grooving was in and the high-speed insanity of the bands early days was emphatically out - in short they seemed like a band whose youthful vigour had gone and who had settled into middle-age.
Thankfully two incidents occured which casued Napalm Death to dust of the cobwebs and rediscover the fact that they used to be a grindcore band - firstly they recorded the excellent 'Leaders Not Followers' cover EP which took them back to their early influences, and secondly a band called Nasum emerged playing the very style of hyper-speed grindcore that Napalm had drifted so far from. The resulting 'Enemy of the Music Business' ... Read More:

riffs are key in metal,we all love them and cherish them when a good one pops along,on crowbars sonic excess you could be forgiven for bleeding from your ears due to all the riffs that scream out of the speakers, each song has more riffs than some bands entire album,so now you understand the brilliance of this.
Of course there is alot more to crowbar than riffs, they are extremely heavy as well and sludgy but they can speed it up when they want so dont let the fact that they can be slow stop you hearing this, the bands beauty lies in their ability to fuse together sheer heaviness with the ability to make it all sound so effortless and melodic, kirks vocals are immense on this, his roar is natural and the words are clear to make out, they dont scream for the sake of it.album opener ... 95.Nation by: Sepultura

Music : Nation
I have heard Roorback and Dante XXI, and had mixed views about those albums so was really in 2 minds with Nation. However to my pleasure i was happily suprised with the end result. It is recoignisable as a Sepultura album, but its a different kind of Sepultura album. From listening to the Max Cavalera albums and being taken on board the Sepultura plain with them i have got used to the deep angry growls of Max's vocals. With Derrick Green on vocals the whole atmosphere of the album seems to change. Yes the strong powerful riffs and melodies are present in great volume, but there also seems to be a slightly more relaxed and, dare i say, softer feell to the songs in general. This might have somthing to do with the fact that now the main song writing duties have been taken over by guitarist ... Read More:

Music : Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious
Carcass proved that the glimmers of genius they presented to us on their first two fuzz packed records, was ready to burst out into what they had always subconciously wanted to play. Grind tinged death metal with real melody, but shredding riffs and concrete drum barages !!!
Adding the ever young looking Michael Amott to their ranks, they gained a real thinker in melodic guitar metal, but took nothing from their famous aggressive streak.
The opener 'Inpropagation', starts with a recorded mortuary sample, and then cuts into one of the best riffs Carcass have ever written.
Lyrically they are still messing about with medical and pathological text books, and it doesn't really matter whats being said, as its all pretty much redundant any way.
Steer's backing biled growl ... Read More:

a new lineup and a new label did it make any difference?
i would say most definitely yes!
the band have streamlined their sound and reduced the electronics and removed the nu metal sound and tightened up the sound and brought an extremely larger chunk of aggression to the table
this is much more straightforward and direct
and because of this its a joy to hear them tear your face off the second the album erupts from the speakers
for me the two standouts are the two more melodic numbers in the form of the title track and the mighty brooding beast of a song that is bite the hand that bleeds that prove that there is still life and variety/creativity still in the band
nice to see them banish the memory of digimortal well and truely out of our minds

Annihillator have constantly remained a top-notch thrash metal band druing the years, never losing their pure thrash metal sound (ever). After the return (on the previous album) of Original singer Randy rampage, the band decided to get ANOTHER new singer: this time somebody whose name i cant remember. but what i do remember is that he is one heck of a singer.

So what kind of thrash metal is it? is it melodic thrash? well, yes it is, it is not exactly the most melodic kind of thrash (that would belong to anthrax and Death angel), but it is melodic, and sometimes catchy, but the new singers vocie gives it a good kind of aggression which makes it feel brutal as well as melodic, something that Has only ever been achieved (in my opinion) by Iced earth.

what about the songs? well, ... Read More:

Morbid Angel are often painted as being something of a one-man-band with Trey Azagthoth apparently wielding total executive control over his long time right hand man Pete Sandoval and whoever is the current occupant of the bass/vox and 2nd guitarist's chair. The more I listen to the band though the more I think this is perhaps not totally the case. Although the Trey Azagthoth trademarks remain intact though all their albums, certain phases of the bands career have been dominated by the playing style of certain individuals. For example the melody and complexity of Blessed are the Sick belonged very much to Richard Brunelle in the same way that the style and lyrical message of Domination belonged very much to David Vincent. Applying this relationship to Gateways to Annihilation it appears to be jointly owned ... Read More:

100.God Hates Us All by: Slayer

Music : God Hates Us All
It has to be tough for slayer. This is the band who defined what a certain brand of metal sounded like, even what it could sound like. Reign in Blood was the record I wanted to hear in 1986. It was the yard stick by which I measured not just metal, but all extreme/noise music. I spent years trying to find another record that would give me that same hit. Now here is that record.

Nothing inbetween has offered that same visceral brutality. Like Reign in Blood this is an album that takes my breath away, I find myself listening to a track, then replaying it, just to relive the sensation. It somehow leaves me feeling clean, in the same way that you feel purged after a fist fight, not clever, but in touch with something elemental.

Maybe the involvement of Rick Rubin in Production has something to do with ... Read More:
